Pre-Order FAQ

Pre-Order FAQ

All your questions answered on ordering and downloading Sins

From time-to-time questions pop-up about how people can participate in the pre-order process. Hopefully this FAQ will answer many of those questions.

  •  How can I pre-order the game?

You can pre-order the game through TotalGaming.net by clicking on the Store link above.

  • What are the system requirements for the game?

The minimum system requirements are:

- Windows XP SP2 / Vista
- 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
- 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
- 128 MB 3D DirectX 9 Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
- DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
- DVD-ROM Drive (for retail copies)
- 3 GB Hard Drive Space
- Keyboard and Mouse
- DirectX 9.0c

The recommended system requirements are:

- 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor
- 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista)
- 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above)

  • What do all of these purchase options mean?

Digital Download Only means that you will only receive the final release as a download through Stardock Central.

Digital Download + Collector's will give you immediate access to the final game as a digital download, plus we will ship you a retail boxed copy as well (there's an additional shipping & handling fee with this option).

  • What does the retail box include?

The standard retail box includes the game on DVD and a print manual.

If you order the game direct from Stardock you will receive the Collector's Edition. This special version includes the following bonus items: a foldout tech-tree poster, artwork posters, a hotkey card, and a music CD.

  • What gives?  My credit card says you charged me already?

Some banks put a temporary hold on credit cards for pre-orders to ensure there's enough credit available in the account. These are typically released in 24-48 hours.  Pre-orders are not charged until a major beta version is released (i.e, beta 2, beta 3, etc.).

  • Why can't I pre-order using PayPal?

Our store doesn't support PayPal charging orders on future dates. For this reason we're not able to accept PayPal for pre-orders.

  • I got a pre-order receipt in email, why can't I download the beta?

This is simply a reference number for your pre-order. You will only get a valid serial number and download information once we release the game and your credit card is charged.

  • If I buy the game using TotalGaming.net tokens, can I get access to the beta even though it may be closed?

Yes, since tokens are deducted immediately, TotalGaming.net members always gain instant access to betas.

  • How much is shipping & handling for boxed copies?  How are items shipped?

Shipping & handling currently costs $10 USD in the U.S. and $20 USD to anywhere else in the world.  Shipping is handled via the U.S. Postal Service. This is due to the weight of the special Collector's Edition box (it's packed with hefty goodness).

  • Do I have to use Stardock Central to download the game?

Yes, we do not provide game downloads as standalone downloads. You do not need to run Stardock Central to play the game, however.

  • How can I cancel or change my pre-order?

If you need to make a change to your pre-order, please email sales(at)stardock(dot)com with your request. Please allow up to two business days for a reply.

  • Is there a monthly fee for multiplayer?

There is no monthly fee to play Sins, either online or off.

So I just pre-ordered (not using tokens), do I have to wait for Beta 3? If so, when does Beta 3 come out?

Yep, you have to wait. Sorry. Good news is beta 3 is aimed to come out in the third week of September! Aka next week!

Hooray for timing? I guess it could be worse. I'll wait the week. Will I get the serial # required to download when 3 comes out or is that something I should have already? Also, will I be notified via e-mail? (probably dumb questions, I know, but I just want to be sure that I'm not missing out or anything).

You should get an email with your serial when the beta is released and your order is charged.

Will the final version require pixel shader 2.0 graphics card technology? The reason I ask is because that is the only Supreme Commander requirement I didn't have. I had ALL the others by far (even the recommended the specs my computer surpassed!). And then I learned that Best Buy wouldn't return games that had been opened (I didn't realize I lacked that requirement until I tried installing the game, it took me three hours to figure out which requirement I didn't have)  . And then I learned Gamestop wasn't taking PC trade-ins anymore   . The reason why I didn't buy a new graphics card is a) I'm a poor college student and thus cannot afford a new graphics card, and b) I have a laptop and I don't think you CAN put a new graphics card in a laptop. So I have a personal beef with that pixel shader 2.0 crap. I'm just hoping it won't be required in the final game...otherwise I'm SOL...again.

P.S.: I wouldn't mind if pixel shader 2.0 was a recommended spec and I just couldn't experience some of the better graphics, but please don't make it required.

I don't believe it's a requirement, but I'll have to verify.

Okay, Pixel Shader 2.0 is not required, but the game won't look nearly as good without a video card that supports them.

What is the max Pixel shader that is supported? 4.0 ~ DX10?

uhm.... try 3.0?

But I want 4.0 support... My 8800GTS needs to be abused...

Yeah, I wanna strain my 8800GTX!

LordKosc, just an FYI: the reason most people don't engage in E-Peen contests is because there is always someone out there with a bigger and badder one.

Why can't I pre-order using PayPal?
PayPal doesn't support charging orders on future dates. For this reason we're not able to accept PayPal for pre-orders. After a major beta version is released, there's an "open" period of about a week where you should be able to use PayPal (you will be charged immediately) .

Ok i will be buying SOSE but i wanted too ask a couple questions before i do.

I was at the checkout screen when i saw paypal as an option (i read this before and thought it wasnt). Now above it says that within a week of a new stage being made available theres a period of "about a week where you should be able to use PayPal".Now i believe stage two has been out longer then a week so

1.Will i be able to order using paypal successfully ?

2.If i pay by paypal after beta 3 comes out will i get to download it ?
You can't order by pay-pal until Beta 3 is released, probably sometime next week.

No, that was only possible while the Beta 2 window was open (it closed July 31). The next window should begin next week and continue for at least a weeek after it opens; you'll be able to use paypal then.

As long as it gets the job done, I am happy!

Devs have said early November, you shouldn't have to wait long.

I notice in the FAQ it says

If I buy the game using TotalGaming.net tokens, can I get access to the beta even though it may be closed?

Yes, since tokens are deducted immediately, TotalGaming.net members always gain instant access to betas.

I gather this is not quite the case with this game, at least the game isn't available for download. Might be an idea to change that entry. I was warned when buying it earlier today (Multianna's video caught me) though, so I'm not disappointed or anything .

However, there was some contradiction during the process, it said my tokens wouldn't be deducted until I could download the game, yet they disappeared a little time after I bought it. And in SD Central the game turns up among my purchased titles yet there is still a button for buying it. Hoping it's just an artifact of the current inavailability of the game and that it is really registered correctly.

Finally, what I'm really wondering about: I noticed in some other thread that the next beta version was slated for "next month". Is there any more specific information on when I can get my virtual hands on the game?

You can download the beta as soon as you buy it with the tokens. Make sure you have "show pre-release versions" checked, and you should be able to download it.

We don't have an exact date, just "very early November", which sort of sounds like the first week of.
