Sins Beta 2 - Technical Feedback - *Post Here*

This thread is for technical feedback for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 2. 

Please reply to this post if you'd like to make: a bug report, let us know about a compatibility issue, graphics issues, performance reports, etc. (i.e., technical stuff).

Before making a report, please be aware that the minimum system requirements for Beta 2 are:

  • Windows XP SP2 / Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
  • 128 MB 3D DirectX Video Card
  • DirectX 9.0c

IMPORTANT:  When making a post about a bug, be certain to include - your system specs, a description of the bug you encountered, what you were doing when the bug occurred (how to reproduce it), and if it was reproducible or not.  We won't be able to make changes to the game without detailed information.

If you encounter a crash, please install SmartException from the Free Stuff section of Stardock Central and reproduce it (if possible). Send the generated exception to: sinsbugs(at)stardock(dot)net along with a detailed description as outlined above. If Sins generates its own crash report, please follow the instructions on the dialog that pops-up (if you send in a Sins-generated report, you don't need to send in a SmartException one).

Last Flagship Standing doesn't work with the new update.

The game simply ends with a loss for the player when you start it. Possibly because the player doesn't even have a flagship before building one.

you might also want to stop the possible loophole of someone NOT using capships.

A couple things I found with the new patch,

About 5 crashes with the message a device attached to this computer is not functioning and 0 byte dump files to go with them.

On a large map with 5 stars there is one star system on one end were not matter were I click planet, star anything I am unable to pan the camera. Works fine in every other system.

Does anyone have this problem with the graphics? When I first the game the graphics lag behind for a couple of seconds and sometimes during the game. This happens on very game.

Yes, happens to me too. I think it's because the game is loading textures and models for certain zoom distances. At least it always happens once when I zoom in so I see the models.

But this happens only in the very beginning of the game to me.

I would like more widescreen resolutions included. I keep my native desktop at 1280 x 720. This is the most comfortable resolution to look at based on the size of my monitor (47") and distance from the screen (several feet).

I know the game can handle this resolution, as I manually changed it in the settings file. It just needs to be made an option in the settings menu.

I've had one game freeze so far. It occurred when I jumped my view to Ctrl group fleet 1 during a battle. The game froze with the fleet battle on screen. I really had to play with windows Task Manager to shut down Sins. After a few minutes of trying to shut down Sins in the Task Manager as both an application and a process, it finally died.

I would have sent the dump file, but none was generated.

My system specs are

Intel E6600 Duo Core
8800 GTS 320 meg video card (I run video at 1680x1050 with max settings)
2 Gigs of DDR2 800 OCZ ram in Dual Channel mode
2 250 Gig SATA II drives in RAID 0
Asus P5B-Plus motherboard

game froze totally, could move mouse but couldnt click on anything.. this was after 8 hours in a game i had total control of 2 star systems and working on the third, save load games no longer work for me at all since the new patch so thats another game lost.. uggggg there was again no dump file generated system specs p4 3.60 dual nvidia8800 w 756meg 2gig ddr2 6400ram on 680i mobo

i think i know y it dose this its cos the total size of the galaxy u are playing in is too small for the nom of stars u have in a map this is also y sometimes u cant scroll. If any 1 can confirm this it would be nice its just the most logical reason. this is in reply for a point on the 5th page

Pirate base on asteroid remains on the asteroid after bombardment and colonization.

I do like the look of it tho. So Kinda nice to see if.

And as you can see the asteroid has already been colonized and therefore bombarded.

Quite a few bugs from me today, some have been reported and some half "proved" so here are my bugs with screenshots.

v0.78.022

far away planets gets transparent when clicking with the middle mouse botten.


the right icons comes back if i just move the view abit




Planet was previous own by me and is conquered by the AI, but it still has my icon.




Ghost ships in space.. these "ghosts" are retreating AI

Missiles follow retreating AI


the missiles are around the incomming blue ship




Aint all stars suppost to be connected?




Other issues:
-Still no option to turn all icons off, eg icons above planets.
-Arrow keys dont work at random, tho its known by IC
-Game stutter, not much, but with with 60fps i suspect its a CPU/optimazation thing.
-Reported some time ago to IC, but game gets insanely slow when watching ships in phase space, even if your view isent there. Continues until travel is finished.

I've noticed with the capital ship yard at the home planet already built, right next to my frigate shipyard, when I zoom out and the ship yards turn into icons, the capital ship yard icon covers over the frigate yard.

Its impossible to select the frigate/cruiser shipyard once that happens...

Could it be possible to start a game and have to pre-place these structures? Or at least give them some more breathing room.

The fleet support number at the bottem is wrong, i dont have that many frigats or total ships in any way.

Thats not the biggest problem, IMO -- look at where that pirate hideout is placed! Right on the phase-lane between that asteroid and the sun! (That type of "display" issue is really, really bad)

Has anyone noted at the end of a game, on the stats page, that the "Capital ship levels purchased" is always at 0?

I have this on every single game so far and I always buy levels for my capital ships when affordable.
