Rise of the Earth Federation

Rise of the Earth Federation

yet annother Terran Alliance AAR

"I've always hated bureaucrats, but now I have become one. Even If it means I'm the head of government that spans an entire planet, irony...sucks."
Edgar Ford, President of the Earth Federation to reporters, circa 2226.

Throughout the twenty-first century, humans wondered how, when, of if Earth would be united.
Some thought it would be out of pure and bare necessity after World War Three, others though it would a military coup' de tat, and some though it would never be united.
However, they were all wrong. It all began in 2016, when the Federated States of Micronesia, tired of being dependent on U.S. aid, held a summit with Tonga, Kiribati, and Fiji with the purpose of creating a political union of island nations that would pool money and resources to fund civil projects, provide disaster aid, and if needed, military support to each other. They called themselves the Oceanic Union. In 2020, a constitution was signed, and the Pacific Federation was born, consisting of all the Pacific island nations excluding Taiwan. While this was going on, dissent against China's communist government culminated in a popular revolution in 2031, which threw out the Communist Party and established the Republic of China. Although this was a turbulent event, the leaders of many countries quietly breathed a sigh of relief, because of them, especially the United States, had increasingly cool relations with Communist China. The most violent step toward the unification of Earth occurred in the Middle East, when Iran and Syria formed a coalition and invaded Lebanon in 2035. Saudi Arabia, Israel, and surprisingly the PF and China formed their own coalition and declared war on Iran and Syria that same year. World War Two-And-A-Half, as it was sometimes sarcastically referred to, went back and forth, with many soldiers dying on both sides, but following a missile bombardment of Damascus in 2042, Syria surrendered and Iran shortly followed suite. To avert another event such as this, Saudi Arabia and Egypt held a conference in Riyadh, and with much work, the United Arab Republic was formed. (Israel assumed protectorate status.) the final steps were more peaceful. As European countries gave more and more power to the European Union, many began to merge together until the fabled United States of Europe emerged in 2062. ,The United States, seeing where the world was going, signed a treaty with Canada, Mexico, and Cuba, which had recently renounced its communist government, creating the North American Republic.
Finally, South America followed suite and created the South American Conglomerate in 2070.
Aside from occasional skirmishes between the minor nations, things were quiet until 2092, when the infamous Thalan probe was discovered in Havana. In response, the nations of the world banded together and formed the Earth Federation in 2110.
With the discovery of cold fusion in 2210, and the subsequent discovery if Hyperdrive in 2220, the Earth Federation was ready to expand into the stars.

That's part one, part two is coming soon...and yes I'll tell you my game settings then.

The swirling rainbow of hyperspace vanished with a brilliant flash of light, and the Barbados was once again hanging in the void of space, and thier destination hugn before them: an indigo star looking like a burning opal with a single planet orbiting.
"Sir,jump is complete," Methesus said, his voice dripping with relief. "No enemy ships on sensors...but I am detecting Assryian ships."
As if talking about them would conjure them up, Tendath spoke up: "Sir, one of those ships is hailing us."
"Onscreen. Let's see what they thnk of us," Evans said dryly.
On the screen appeared a reptillian life-form. The eyes were a piercing yellow and looked like those of a snake; the jaw was pulled foward into a long snout like an alligator's, with small, sharp teeth from the uper jaw draping over the lower. Bathtub-white armor that gleamed from the ship's lights covered the forarms, shoulders and chest.
"This is Centourian Tal'on of the Holy Assryian Navy cruiser Vengance and Reconcilliation. Identify yourselves."
With a twang of annoyance in his voice, Evans answered, "This is Admiral Evans of the destroyer Barbados. We were heavily damaged in a battle and have taken prisoners. We are requesting permission to dock in your starport for repairs and transfer of captives."
Tal'on's posture reamined rigid and military but his tone was that of a mere mortal and not one who was master of all he surveyed: "Understood. I will escort you to the starport. They will have repiar teams and gaurds standing by." His right fist tapped against his heart and shot out straight in the Assryian salute as the channel was cut.
"He sure as hell didn't look like an Assryain," someone said.
"He wasn't," Evans answered without looking at the speaker, "he was Skathalet. They live alongside the Assryains."
"Did you here how high-and-mighty he sounded when he first hailed us?" Tendath chimed in. "If that wasn't arrogance, I'll eat my jackboots." That earned some scattered chuckles--hisses is Methesus' case--but Evans just shrugged.
"I guess he's heard of my exploits. Or he knows I outrank him," he said. "They value subordination highly."
Tal'on appeared on the viewscreen once more. "i have moved my ship alongside yours. Follow me to the starport."
"Understood. Lead the way," Evans answered, and cut the channel. As the two ships activated thier engines, Evans looked at the planet he orbited. It was a great desert with marmalade-colored sands. He gave a mental sigh of relief. For now, at least, they were safe.

Kosolov leaned back against the wall, wincing as the windowsil bumped against his back. Without turning to the soldier next to him he said, "Jiro,of all the things I expected to be after a battle, bored sure as hell wasn't one of them."
"Shocking, ain't it?" The Japanese Marine asked, deadpan. "Gaurding unarmed prisoners in the brig was mind-numbing, so I figured guarding injured ones, some of which are full of morphine would be a blast." He slapped himself in the forehead. "Geez, I was stupid."
"Well, it's very big of you to admit that," Kosolov retorted.
Jiro laughed for a second, then slid closer to Kosolov and elbowed him in the ribs. Kosolov grunted in pain and gave Jiro a hard look. Jiro shrugged his shoulders and gave him an innocent look. "What?"
Kosolov rolled his eyes and shook his head, then looked through the window into sick-bay. Everything in the room seemed to be whitewashed and made of plastic, and the faint reek of a harsh antiseptic wafted from under the door. The beds were lined up in neat rows, and all dressed with the same sheets and comforters.
The only thing different were the patients: some human, some Korx; some looked unijured, others were less lucky. (He recognized the female Korx he interrogated earlier; her left arm was in a sling and a gauze was taped to her forehead.) One poor soul was in a full body-cast and lay motionless as a clear liquid dripped from a tube into his mouth. It doesn't look like a hospital. It looks like a medical experiment lab, he thought, wrinkling his nose as the antiseptic's smell burned his nostrils.
Jiro started to say something, but a chime from the intercomm cut him off. After a click of static, Admiral Evans' voice boomed out of the speakers: "Evans to all crewmembers. We have docked in an Assryian starport and the ship will undergo repairs. We are required to exit the Barbados until repairs are complete. Gaurds will take charge of the prisoners upon exit. I am ordering all crew to exit the ship in fifteen standard minutes. Marines, escort the prisoners off the ship when we leave. Medical staff, the patients will be cared for by Assryian doctors. That is all for now."
Kosolov and Jiro gave each other a look. "An Assryian starport," said the latter. "We finally get to see what those overgrown leopards and their pet lizards have floating around."
Kosolov just nodded.

Lieutenant General Richard Archer sighed when the viewscreen flashed INCOMING TRANSMISSION in red, unfriendly letters. Shuddering in his black uniform as he sat in a chair, (Why is it so cold in here, he thought,) he put it through. A soldier appeared, and it was obvious she had seen some serious fighting: bloodshot eyes, a shattered visor, scars and bandages, and a slouched posture. "Archer here. What's up?"
"General Archer, Ihave something to tell you about the invasion."
Oh God, what now? Archer thought, rubbing his eyes. "Tell me," he said.
"Sir, it seems that there's been a rebellion on Eagle Four."
Archer shrugged. "Korxian planets' morale has been plummitting ever since the war started. We all knew that some oppertunistic dissidents would join us. We even ensured it with that propaganda blitz."
The soldier shook her head. "You don't understand, General. This happened before we even arrived....and they've taken control of the planet. "
Archer leaned foreward, keely intrested. "What?"
"They took over the planet," the soldier repeated. "They severed all ties to the Dominion, declared thier independance, set up a new government, they even have a new flag."
Archer nodded as she spoke, a silent Alright, I get it.
When she was done, he said, "What about the old govener?"
The soldier grimaced. "The rebels, ah, excecuted the govener, his advisors, the council, and thier fanilies." She said the last rwo words with a great deal of effort.
Archer's mouth dropped open. "My God!"
"Agreed," the soldier said flatly. "I'm in the leader's new office right now; I'll let you talk to him."
Before Archer could respond, the camera snapped to the right and zoomed in on the rebel leader: A Snathi with an eyepatch brunmarks on his fur, a bandana around his head and waht looked like a bite-mark on hisa left ear. "Hey, General," the new leader of Eagle Four said, anything but cheerful. "'mind telling me why you invaded the newly independant Eagle Federation?"
Archer felt like attacking the rat-like alien. Since he couldn't, he said, "We didn't know you rebeled; we tought you were still a colony."
"Turns out you were wrong as hell, O Great General," the rebel--Aksonnis, the sign on his desk read-- said, turning the honorate into a swear.
Archer felt like smoke was shooting out of his ears. "Look, we landed nearly a billion soldiers down there. We can't just scoop them up in a snap. Besides, I'll bet there are still some factions who want a piece of the Eagle Four pie, and I'll bet most of them-"-including yours, you bloodthirsty bastard- "would kill to get control." Aksonnis thought that over.
"Alright, you win," he said with obvious reluctance. "Your soldiers can stay." With that, he broke the connection.
Archer tilted his head back and let out a long, exsasperated sigh.
First the Korx have Thalan capital ships, then fighters with nano-rippers, now this. As he formed the thought. He chuckled without humor. I hate this job.

Kosolov hated walking in a still ship. He felt like he would fall flat on his face at any instant with the Barbados not moving under him. I've been on this ship too damn long, he thought, then in slef-mockery: I wonder how I'll take to being on Earth again. He chuckled at his own stupidity. It was very likely he would be on a planet very soon...and it sure as hell wouldn't be Earth.
"W-what's so funny?" the Korx next to him asked shakily. Kosolov relayed his musings, and the prisoner--her name was Sira--laughed. "You're lucky all you have to worry about is problems walking. When you're a weapons officer, you have to make sure you don't shoot your own ship!" Kosolov grinned. "That's why I didn't join Starfleet: too much to worry about." Sira started to say something, but a voice from behind cut her off: "Colonel, if you don't quit fraternizing with prisoners, I may have to tell Captain Hayes."
Kosolov looked behind him. The soldier behind him didn't look an hour over seventeen, sounded dead serious, and was red in the face. His unform's saprse decorations proclaimed him a Private.
The two-word answer Kosolov was about to give would make his face even redder, but Sira soothed him:"Don't get mad at him. He may have lost a friend too." She paused for a second, sighed and looked at the floor. "I guess three is a crowd," she said quietly. Koslov looked at the blank-faced alien with something very close to warmth.
"It may be a crowd," Kosolov said, "but crowds tend to make good comapny."
"You know something, Colonel? I think you're right," the soldier behind Kosolov said.
When Kosolov look behind him, the soldier's face wasn't red with anger. Smiling, Kosolov replied, "You know what, Private? I think I am."

Evans felt his stomach chruning as the chanmber behind the airlock door repressurized with a loud, high-pitched hiss. We're safe, he thought. We've docked in a friendly starport and the Barbados will be repaired. Why am I so nervous? He groped for the answer as the door opened, and finaly realized: Now,I'll be the new alien arrival. He (and the other human crewmembers) had been less than recpetive towards Tendath and Methesus: they were the only aliens on Barbados. He never expected the shoe to be on the other foot.
An Asryian stepped through the portal and curtsyed to Evans. Evans couldn't help blinking in suprise, he'd never seen one in the flesh before. He looked like a bipedial tiger, (female Assryians resembled leopard-human hybrids,) and wore burgandy armor on his waist, biceps and chest, with a veridian robe cascading from the waist-armor to the floor. "I am thankful for your safe arrival, Brother Earther. It would be dreadful for the Triple Alliance to lose such a skilled warrior, even this late in the war. I am Sub-Praetor Risson, an officer on Ashria's Shield."
It took a split-second to realize that was the name of the starport, and Evans replied, "Thank you, Sub-Praetor." He gestured to the Marines to escort the prisoners out of the ship, (or roll them out: one was still in a hospital bed and two were in whellchairs,) and walked with Risson into the airlock and into a tunnel. "And what did you mean by 'Triple Alliance?' "
"It is the official name for the alliance between our species and the Thalans," Risson said, before adding, "And you may call me 'Risson'. As a ship-captain you out- rank a starport officer."
"Very well, Risson," Evans said, and got down to business: "How long can the crew and I expect do be here?"
"That depends on the extent of your ship's damage, but our repiar crews are more than competent. I'd guess that you will resde here for no more than three k'tars."
A k'tar is eight days, Evans thought. That's twenty-four days out of action...unless Starfleet Command puts me in a new ship before then.
"Thank you for the information," Evans said, feeling somewhat irratated at speaking this formaly, which suprised him: he was normally outgoing. It's just battle fatigue, he assrued himself.
The walk down the hall was short, and soon they came to a door at the other end. It slid open with a quiet hiss, and Evans walked thorough, following the Marines and prisoners, himself followed by crewmembers axiously trying to nuge past him. The scene when he stepped through the door was awe-inspiring.
A huge spire soared to the summit of the station, with cylindrical tunnels spreading out in eight dirsctions every hunderd feet up. Crewmembers briskly walked about, tending to thier duties, and shuttle craft flew to and fro, most of the traffic coming out of a large tunnel at the far end of the station. But what made it nearly unbeliveable were the ships.
They were objects of beauty with their sleek, goose-like hulls and soft orange and bathtu-white paint jobs as they rumbled out into space or drifted into docks.
That made Evans remember something. He looked around for Risson, who was standing next to him. "What is it, Brother Earther?"
"I was wondering if my crew could assist yours and in repairing my ship," Evans replied. "They know it well, and they might find some damage I didn't know about."
And I don't want your cronies snooping around and finding anything out.
"Of course they can," Risson replied, "How else could we repair the ship effectively? Now, you must be tired. We have vacant quarters avaliable, I hope they are to the liking of you and your crew."
Evans nodded, and followed Risson and the crew down thw catwalk, passing the Marines, who were stopped for the moment, trying to explain that Tendath was a crewmember and not a prisoner. Sighing, Evans stopped and assrued the Skathalet guards of the former, which seemed to satisfy them. Tendath offered no reply other than mumbled thanks, which Evans understood. If Tendath's half as frazzled as I am, he's proobly having a hard time walking.

Grand Admiral (or to use the Korx term, Supreme Director) Hessarah Mengathis shook her head and let out an exasperated sigh. The Dominon was on the reatreat, its planets were either under merciless seige or in rebelion, its once-great economy was in shambles, and its navy was being torn to pieces, and here she was, safe in an underground bunker, help making a plan for the defence of Korx when the Allied invasion fleet came. This is disgraceful, she thought savagely. She looked from chair to chair at the Dominon Navy commanders seated at the table. They all sat silently, looking worried and scared. Good, Hessarah thought, even more savagely, It's about time they got a reality check. And then, the thoughts full of irrational loathing:They're bureaucratic fools. All they care about is how extravagan they can make thier estates. They don't have families to protect. Karalx should have purged them, not enslaved Snathi who had no part in that recession.
The thoughts were there and gone faster than an Earther jet fighter; it was time to start. "Gentlemen, we all know why we're here: to drum up a defence fleet for when the Allies come," she said suddenly.
Director Torren sent her a repoachful look, as if using Earther expressions was somehow treason. Hessarah ignored him, and told of her plan: "I propose we move every other capital ship we have into orbit immediatly. This way, Korx will have an exlent defence fleet, and our colonies will all have at least one frigate defending them."
She made a great effort not to say 'remaining colonies'.
"That is not enough," Torren said acidly. "Those frigates were outdated when we bought them from the Thalans, all they'd do is give the Allies more to shoot at, and we'd have a Mithrilar-damned bloodbath on our hands."
Hessarah turned her head to Torren--slowly, she wanted to scare him--and said, "True, but you forget we have an advantage the Allies are ignorant of." Torren said nothing for a while, then spoke in realization: "The Telenath."
"Precisely," Hessarah said evenly. "When our spies stole the data on engineering battleship-sized vessels from the Thalans, we didn't know what to do with it," she exlained to the questioning looks of the commanders. "But when we bought those frigates, we slowly got idead on hoe to build capital ships. We've been building the Telenath since before the war, but we're just starting to finish it. It won't win us the war, there's no doubt about that, but if we damage the invasion fleet enough, we may be able to get an armistice with the Allies, or get the Torians to through thier hat into the ring."
Torren gave her annother angry look for using an Earther expression, but this time it had a hint of good humor in it. The other commanders were silent for a few minutes, then nodded in approval. "I guess this meeting wasn't nesesary...but I don't like being kept in the dark about a superweapon that could prevent our defeat," one said indignantly as he stood up."
"Sorry, but you didn't Need To Know," Hessarah replied, making sure the capitals thudded into place. With out dismissing them or bidding them farwell, Hessarah stood up and walked out of the room, down the hall and into an elevator. The ride up was silent and grim except for the hum of the cable. She stepped out when she reached the top and went outside and found her vehicle and driver wainting for her. "Take me home," she said simply, and he wordlessly turned the engine over and started driving.
The ride home, which lasted a few hours, was wordless except for Hessarah thanking her driver and sending him off. She noticed other vehicles in her driveway, parked haphazardly, as if the drivers were in a hurry to get out. Good, they're here,
she thought and walked inside. She found a group of Korx sitting at a table, in civillian clothes. She gave them all a plote nod and sat at the head. "Does everyone know thier part in our plan?" she asked with out preamble. Everyone wordlellly nodded, but Hessarah still urged, "But let's go over them again."
Everyone did know thier part, down to the last detail, and they rattled them off, one by one. "It's settled, then: Operation Blood Moon starts tomorrow."
Her co-conspiritors nodded again.
