Is there ground combat?

I know SOASE doesn't include RTS ground combat, but is there at least troop movement included to conquer/occupy planets?

Not currently, no. You basically just nuke it and plant a new flag.

The nuke the planet thing is still funny, because you can launch colony pods at a planet while it is still being nuked!

No raid, no pillage, no conquest, no enslaving?

You took the whole fun out of warfare!

So... This game..

It's "Starship Trooper"'s Navy dream..

"The Navy thinks it can run the whole war alone. It thinks we could simply nuke every planet from orbit, and it would be the end of it, and that the Army is unnecessary."

(ever read the novel?)

I saw the movie.... Co-ed Showers!

Also I found a pic of possible IN GAME ground combat!

I have read the Starship Trooper's novel, the movies adapt was meh. THERE is raiding (destruction of trade ship benefit the guy destroying it) not currently in the beta yet, and there is marauding pirate elemental that we current have no idea about so they may involve bit of pillage or whatever. As for ground combat, of course, you can take over a planet WITH population on it from the previous empire(conquest).

There's no ground combat in the game and none is planned.

I was speaking of taking over planet with population when you sent colony ship. Just to clear it up.

Hmmmm, if you destroy a planet's infrastructure without killing it's population totally off, do you get to keep that pop number when you colonize it?

As far as I know, you can't wipe out one without the other...

Actually I've had it happen once, but I wasn't able to reproduce it.

I can reproduce it so far Kryo even entire galaxy worth of population. Yarlen How you get it to happen is that you set the battle to be "Flagship suicide", then you build 50 frigates to rush the enemy flagships and you GET both infrastructure and population INTACT. Here some proofs.

7000/1500 infrastructure? I'm betting Ironclad will want to see that...

Yep whenever I colony bugged infrastructure or planet with more pop than possible they alway go down the the level 1 level. Which meant I colony the one with 7k it will go down to 1.5k and have more than an empty planet. Same for population.

I was thinking in "raiding" like attacking the ennemy planets with small forces to destroy infrastructures, lower morale and stealing money out of it.

But that will be for a possible expension, of SoaSE 2, maybe.. Sins of a Lunar Empire

or SoaIGDCE. Sins of an Intergalactic Dust Cluster Empire!

Hey ... doesn't it sound a little similar to one of the old bug in Dread Lord?

(After an invasion the population on a planet just suddenly sky rocket).

not only are my troops better, they are more fertile.

Can you be a bit more specific about what exactly you're doing?

He means set the game mode to "last flagship standing." When you kill an enemy flagship, their empire is defeated so all of their ships/structures blow up and their planets become neutral. Thus, their colony has been "wiped out" without you actually bombarding it. So the population and infrastructure remain undamaged. But, the problem comes when the planet's level goes back to 1 but the infrastructure and population remain at their max from the level it was at before.

Ah, ok. When I ended up with a planet that had people left on it after bombardment though, I wasn't playing in that mode. So there must be a couple of ways to get the issue to occur.

I have no idea how to reproduce your problem kryo.
