Sins Community Update

Sins Community Update

I want to extend our thanks to everyone who's been providing feedback so far on the Sins beta test. We've gained a lot of great information from our beta testers and from the Sins community as a whole.  This post is to give everyone an update on the progress of the game and where we're going from here. At the end of this post you'll also find two exclusive new shots from our internal builds to speculate over.

The first thing to expect in the next couple of months is a completely redesigned Sins website. The new site will contain up-to-date information on the game, new screenshots, and more. We'll also be releasing a fan-site kit in the future for those of you who may want to put up your own pages about Sins. In mid-June, everyone can look forward to the Beta 2 release of Sins. Beta 2 will remain TEC only and the focus will be on single-player gameplay dynamics.

At this point, some of you are probably thinking, "Isn't June a bit late for Beta 2 if the game's going to ship in August?" After reading everyone's ideas and feedback so far on Beta 1, Ironclad and Stardock have decided to push Sins' release back to February 2008. We realize this will be a disappointment to some of you, but the simple fact is that we all want to release the best game possible. The extra time will allow us to add more depth and features to Sins, including some stuff we had only wished we had time for previously.  This extended release schedule means there will be two additional betas after Beta 2 that will focus on multiplayer content.

Thank you all for your continued support!

IMO, Sins graphics are far superior in every way.

I agree. I'm not playing the beta but seeing the screenshots... The graphics are quite a bit different (thankfully) but definitely better.

I dont think the ships look "outdated" in any regard. I think people tend to use that term incorrectly with regards to models. As far as I'm concerned, they[the ships] have distinctive asymmetric characteristics for the most part and have a multi color palette and are peppered with lighting effects. All of which are indicative of advanced model design.

I think the intended use is regarding models that are boxy in design and where one can clearly see the texture meeting points and wraps.

I think that the ships look great. As far as being boxy, there isn't a need for arodynamic ships (unless you had something small that needed to reenter the atmosphere, i.e. the space shuttle). I especially like the Marza dreadnought and the carrier design, especially the carrier design. As a matter of fact, I request that you don't even consider changing those ships' designs (with the possibility of decreasing the number of apparent launch bays on the carrier). I agree that these ships exhibit advanced model design. Keep up the great work, and hopefully this game will continue to astonish me!

(Also, take as long as you need to on this game. I'd rather it come out a few months late and be the greatest game I've ever played than have it in August and be missing those little touches that we all come back onto the forums and complain weren't there.)

have it in August

It got pushed back to February '08 (the estimate for right now...).

(with the possibility of decreasing the number of apparent launch bays on the carrier).

I don't know how many launch bays it has and I have the beta, but it can only carry two squadrons (I think it should carry more than 2.)

My jaded, cynical heart is actually beating a little faster in anticipation of the full version of this game!

I've stopped playing the Vanguard MMO beta6 (that is a game that has serious fun factor deficiency issues), because Sins beta1 is actually still more fun to play... so when I receive the polished version with 2/3rds + extra goodies restored to it, I know I am going to happily lose a lot of sleep as I go empire-building.

...and empire destroying!

Not a lot more I can add at this point, there has been a lot of excellent feedback that I've been following, so I suppose all I can do at this point is say, "thank you IC & SD for listening to us beta-testers!"

I know that I am very happy with the direction everything is heading towards.

It can carry two at level one, but I think it can get up to five at level ten, and they said they would be increasing the number of squadrons in the future
