The game crashes when I minimize it with alt+tab. I expected this though, as it is a beta.

Unfortunately, First

As soon as I get into the game, it shows the Stardock/Ironclad logo screens, the initial Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 1 screen, then goes out of full screen to a smaller windowed mode, and its just black (music still plays in the background, and acts like a normal game application window)

System runs:

Win XP SP2
Nvidia Geforce 7 7900 GTX w/93.71 Drivers
DirectX 9.0c
Athlon X2 4200+ processor
2 gigs DDR400 Ram

The work around for this is to disable the opening movies. Goto C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting and open the file user.setting with notepad.  Look for the word "ShowIntroMovies" and turn the following "TRUE" into a "FALSE". Save the file and reload Sins.

First post here, Hi.

I've only tried the beta for a moment but the following things caught my attention.

The middle text in the galaxy creation screen has the tendcy to be to large for the frame and run over into the next piece of text.

Zooming in or out seems to take an inordinate amount of processing power. Other than that the game runs fine in 2560*1600.

Just loaded up real quick, it stayed at a black screen and kept playing a windows error tone, a ctrl alt delete and some alt tab and it fixed right up.

Having the stat panel (in the lower right right corner) causes a lot of lag/takes a lot of resources during the game. very apearent when zooming.

Also, like most things using directX, Sins doesn't like Folding@home, or similar GPU using programs. It will start minimized, and crash to desktop when maximized. Not really an issue, but I thought i'd point it out.

Changing the resolution

Changing the resolution in options results to the same error as with the movies. The game disappears for a while (you see open windows apps) then goes back to a black screen. You still can hear the music, but see only darkness. Muhahaha !

The resolution changes you made will work after you restart the game...

Not sure where to post this so ill do it here. When trying to zoom in on a planet near the text at the top notifying the player of events, even if mouse isnt on the text it scrolls the text instead of zooming.

So the area around that text i think should be decreased so that it only scrolls the text when the mouse is directly over it.

Game is great so far, sorry if im not supposed to have fun but i am

Win XP sp2
3.5GHz
1.5 GB ram
128mb GeForce 6600
DX 9.0c

Couple things - loading a saved game of the first tutorial caused the main menu to appear over the gameplay as soon as it was done loading; and pressing print-screen (also in the tutorial section) made a mess of the screen. (little pink-and-green static rectangles everywhere) Nothing helped with this last bug short of restarting the game.

I second Benn00's opinion - this game is a lot of fun! (And the AI is amazing)

Hi,

When playing in a small game, about 3 hours into a game against one easy AI, I sent in 3 different capital ships(carrier, dreadnought and cruiser) and 2 kodiak frigates into one of his asteroid systems where he had about 3 scout frigates and 4 siege frigates, suddenly the game froze or rather, stuttered between 2 frames repeatedly, with sound, with the game still on screen except I had my taskbar on the bottom and minidump showed up in the taskbar. Unfortunately I could not get a dump of my crash, but up until that point the game ran beautifully, and I was even able to alt tab out of it

p.s. I will try to reproduce it, but alas my save game is about an hour behind

Win XP sp2
Intel core 2 duo e6600 (2.4 ghz)
2 gb of ram
Sapphire radeon 1950GT
full graphics settings except for 2 samples instead of 4

Those of you having extraction errors in Stardock Central, please disable any anti-virus or anti-spyware apps you may have running in the background. These apps can lock the install file during installation. If you still have trouble, please email [email protected].

I've noticed the same issue. I bumped into the same problem with the intro movies, and the resolution change breaks it as well. Basically, as the resolution changes when you hit 'apply', you get the bugged out windowed mode.

I can not get my game to start. When I double click the icon, it loads a giant black screen with no sound or intro movie. I have tried disabling the intro movie and it still has the same problem.

I get some errors shortly after:

Missing \n in C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Huynh\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\uimappings.setting

TextFileArchive ( C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Huynh\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\uimappings.setting ) missing Label: 'isCtrlDown'

It then crashes with a prompt to send a minidump. I have them stored in the minidump folder.

My specifications:
Windows XP 32-bit, SP2
3.20 GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor
1.00 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700VE 256 MB

Delete your uimappings.setting file and reload. Something corrupted the file.

Upon startup I see the movies play, I get the Star dock central video and even get to the "Soase beta 1" screen right after that though the game goes to a black screen. I hear music playing but nothing else will happen. I do however have a similar problem where the screen looks like the game is running in a window. I can see my windows desktop but the game is completely blank.

i'm telling you, it's one of those chinese cybernet spy's again. they are trying to steal the secret TEC stealth technology. this could breach our universal stellar lan security threat sensors and bring it under the chinese control.

Well I just played a 2 hour 36 minute game (didn't quite finish because its bed time.) For me the game was quite stable, not a single glitch occurred that I could notice.

The reason I'm posting is that I thought you might be interested in my setup.

Athlon 64 3400+
1.25 Gb Ram
Ati Mobility Radeon 9600 64mb
Windows Xp Sp 2

My graphics card is actually BELOW the minimum specs as Yarlen has told me, but the game played wonderfully with almost no slow downs. 1024*768, High Textures, 2 Sample

For me the game music still plays when I alt-tab out of it while I'm at the main menu. Seems like if you hit alt-tab and quickly release it the music cuts off. But if you hold alt, press tab, and continue holding alt, it will minimize but the game keeps running (and playing its sounds).
