real scale between planets

I just did some rough quick calculations...

If Earth was 1cm in diameter , i.e picture a marble and imagine you have zoomed out and that is earth , another planet would be about 60 metres away.

In the real world:

if earth is 1cm in diameter
then jupiter is 11cm in diameter
then the sun is 109cm in diameter
(hehe sounds like programming)

in the game

Blair quote from firingsquad Interview
# Fighters are roughly 10m.
# Frigates average 120m in length.
# Capital ships fall between 500-750m.
# Planets have diameters of 15,000m.
# Stars have diameters of 50,000m.
# The distance from the atmosphere to the far orbit is on the order of 100,000m.
# A single solar system is on the order of 10,000,000 m from end to end.
# The distance between the 2 closest solar systems is around 250,000,000m.

so if the earth is 1cm in diameter
then the stars(sun) is 3,3cm in diameter

so game compared to the real world, the sun within sins is kinda small

since you brought up the sacales. human scales comparing each window on those ships. how big will the fighters realisticly be fitting a human on the cockpit and building it on a hangar bay of a capitalship and ofcourse the capital ships bridge window will it be a sense of human to object scale? i mean if you compare a human and a planet, we would be like bedbugs running around a basketball three times the original size.

AGH get over it

blair already told you. even if we DID have the capacity to make scale models as such it would completely ruin gameplay, slow it down etc.

get used to the scales. they're pretty damn good regardless

oh, you know you implied it. why else would you use a    ???

maybe it better?
thats why i did the since i didnt, mean it was to be taken seriously

But the sun is big alright, since you would need 5000 fighters to be the same size or about 60 Capital ships. So its big

Schem, dont bully the forumers

I think the scales are good compared to a lot of other games, I am even amazed that the game will allow us so many option based on how far we can zoom in zoom out, and all the places we can go.

If the sun isnt big enough, I am sure most of us will get over it

until we starve as our planet dies...
If the sun isnt big enough, we would freeze before we started starving
Reply #10 Top
bah, just dig a deep enough hole.
starving is the bigger issue.
No, freezing is. The deeper you dig the colder it will get, unless you actually dig inot the side of a fault, or volcano. And even then because of the reduced gravatational pul of the sun the core would revolve less and less and the mantel would freeze too.

huh what? someone said something?

Gun, I asume since the sizes are given in meters, one can asume the guy sitting in the cockpit (though probably note shown) fits inside his craft about 5 times (ie, is 2 meters longs)

also, providing you dig a deep enough hole, you could also grow plants in there, if you have artificial lights and power (pick a hole with coal in it)

Ehem,

As temperature decreases, there wont be enough coal in the world to keep our energy needs alive, even those of a small city, for more than a year. Plus, as the core stops revolving the atmosphere will slowly start to disipate, and in the end there wont be any air, or CO2 so youll die.

read the "Quantum computer to debut next week" topic and you will understand.
He is a none believer of our Great Emperor, who shall rule the world..

Hm... gives me and idea for a torture technique

New Decree:
All non-believers will be either subjugated by my charm and wit, or burn at the stake.

Other New Decree: Bring me a sandwitch!!

Okay now back on topic, i dont want to 'poison' yet another thread.

One thing that bothers me a bit (not much) is that the planetary areas are nodal, id have much preferred for STARsystems to be nodal.

But imagine this make the guys 4meters long so we could have like real big thingies
and start baton wars eh. (wheres my nut gear)

That was random, yet oddly funny.

I will give you the benifit of the doubt.

As a side note, welcome to the community

Thanks not often you get greetings from a competitor (i mean who doesnt want absolute
control of the galaxy).

Seriously, thanks for the welcome ive been reading these forums for few days and
if Sins claims even half the things theyve mentioned you'll never get rid of me hehe.
Who would want to get rid of you... not me if thats what your hinting at

And dont think of me as a competitor, more of an aggresive critic

I meant the control the galaxy thingie eh.
Nah really im in for the strike for the balls from the shadow of my
superior EW and stealthed missiles.

I do hope theres a way in sins to hide your fleets with EW up to the moment you
release your missiles unto your prey.

Hmm A Great Emperor who doesnt want to subjugate a possible threat hmm most
suspicious better start active scans around my flagship

My name is just a simple title.

But, dont worry, your day will come   (wish there was a more evil wink)
My day shall come yes, but there will be a lightyear long line of bodies before i die.

Oh i have a name too but one doesnt just tell it upfront to everyone.
A lightyear that was warped to about 2 inches because of its close proximety to a black hole

I have many names, i just like the fact that this name fits me.

heavy metal movement will provide for long enough for us to die by starvation.

again all irrelivant as you would have STARVED by then
as for the plants and light, you could try but your not going to get very far...
or he would die from radiation, but in pain

not if you dig a hole...

I think we all are really good at picking names that fit us.

or in this case, my name can be attributed to a friend.

it all depends on how well you isolate your small city. I'm suggestion more of a space station setup here. The hole should be sealed, shielded and insulated. Nuclear power produces sufficient heat and energy to last a long time. One could easily support several millions of people in a properly constructed city.

Don't forget that we still have plenty of water to hydrolyse, to create O2.
For example, take a look at Biosphere, just replace the sun with artificial lightsources. I'm not saying it'll be pretty, but i'm quite sure that with proper preparation humanity could survive a pretty long time.

As you decreed Great Emperor.
