Show off your ship designs 2007!

Ship designs from around the world!

Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

Click on the insert image button at the top of the post box and paste in the "Direct link to image" code from imageshack. Our forums don't use standard link bbcodes, so those won't work.

Ok second try.

Loki: WIP, though pretty much finished..I can't think of anything else to do to it. Metaverse safe.

More to come later.

I'm having some troubles with my photo editing software so I hope these turned out ok.

Nexus: this ship comes from the same side as the last one but is of a different overall design. I use this as my main warship once things get rolling. Metaverse safe

Even more to come once I work out the problems with my photo editor. It makes it very time consuming to edit the pictures once I take them..shouldn't be hard to fix. So most likely more tomorrow.(or tonight if i get bored enough)

I'm still a total newbie at this game.
I think I'm just starting to get the hang of the ship designer.
These three ships are from my current game, my third game as the Yor and my 10th game of GalCiv2.
2 Corvettes and 1 fighter, I'm trying to keep all the ships looking somewhat similar so they look like they belong in the same fleet that said the 2nd Corvette is just a modified version of the first. Any helpful advice or criticism is very much appreciated! ^_^

Basic Fighter
Having no defenses this basic fighter was designed as fast-moving interceptor unit. It also sees use in a variety of misc. roles.

Defensive Corvette
This heavily armored corvette sacrifices speed for armor and firepower. It was designed to guard planets and star bases.

General/Offensive Corvette
This corvette is a modified version of the model A corvette. It sacrifices armor and firepower for speed. Still more heavily armored then the basic fighter and just as fast, this corvette is very flexible.

Next I've gotta design a medium sized ship to crush the upstart Altarians. I'm not really sure exactly how to go about doing this while still having it resemble the smaller fighter craft. Any ideas?

Probe
This sensor ship was designed for scouting and and border surveillance.

A addition for the Terran Fleet - Metaverse safe

I built this one because i needed a survey ship and didn't want to wait for medium hulls to be researched.

So here it is:

I quite like that design actually. Specifically I like the top deck perched on top of the fin above the wings. The small details are also quite neat, such as the small radar dishes mounted out front.
In my mind it also fits the Terran "Style". When I think Terran I think blocky and squarish, although this design has the two large circular plates it still fits this "style" in my opinion.

My wannabe Frigate. Not too many pieces, quite simple. I've gotta make another Frigate too so I've got one for defense and offense.

Frigate
The first medium sized combat vessel. This frigate is non specialized so as to serve in a variety of different roles.

2nd attempt at making a Medium Sized Ship. I think it turned out a little better.

B-Frigate
A lack of extensive life support and sensor systems leaves more room for weapons and armor.

but sir i don't want to sit in an ev suit for five years.

Second try at making a large sized ship. Still not happy

Destroyer
It destroys stuff.

Ok! I think I got this working,
Anyways this is the Star Wyvern, the newest line of offensive cruiser for my custom race, the Chubbs.

I know its not much, but I thought it was neat working and I was rather proud of it. I'm working on a much more extensive model now.

"The Star Wyvern came in good time, the Drath were numerous, and were quickly enveloping the Chubbs portion of the Galaxy like a plague. The result of extensive research into plasma weapons, as well as superior point defense, the Star Wyvern was able decimate entire fleets of fighters with one breath of searing plasma. The war continues to this day, but the Star Wyverm will remain a ship of tommarow."

After all the work, I was a little disappointed that you can't make a freighter that registers as over 933 meters...anyway I included the comparison shot, the trade module is the same size on both vessels. It would be nice if the game actually "measured" the vessels instead of just assigning them a generic length and span based on class/type.

Re: Drengin, once I get a good group of vessels complete I will upload en masse. Thanks for the positive comments.

Below are some highlights from Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords.

What's amazing about these creations is that players were able to construct these with only a handful of "extra" components. In Dark Avatar, there are a lot more components allowing for a much finer degree of control over the design (along with higher quality textures).

each platform can carry 1000 people. each platform can attach to four others. each platform can soft land on any planet. the dome can be removed or kept. each platform has a small factory, storage, and an engine that can be turned into a power station upon landing. each platform becomes your new town center.
