February (is not) SOASE BETA month!!!!!

edited for the last time 2/26/07

So it hasn't been announced what day the beta will be out yet, but we all know it will be this month, I am gonna guess it will be out on a Friday, and probably the 16th of February!

What does everyone else think?

If they start pushing quad core, then I hope microsoft sends them to hell with the xbox effect. I am not buying a quad core just to play a game.

Quad Core time is not here, and better not be needed anytime soon. I am not going to have to spend $2500 just to play a game.

quad core time will be here, when you can get a chip for like 199.99

Sorry guys the final betas removed ALL the debug code and had some optimizations in it - this was the code used for the gold master AND the demo.

SupCom handles on the lowest settings fairly descent on anything not a dual core - note if you don't have a dual core or better SupCom just won't run that well. I went to my current system just to be able to play the SupCom beta at the highest settings. It's all about your CPU not your GPU... QuadCore time is here, there just a little expensive at the moment....

And where's my SoASE beta?

I have the game. A store in my country started selling them early (official release date is 16 feb.

And I must say the final game is running a bit smoother than the beta and the Demo, so it does look like a bit of code optimisation has take place.

I'm enjoying the game imensly so far, it has a decent storyline (for an rts), good movies and I just love the scope.

I don't know what kind of expectations other people had about this game, but it's living up to and exceeding everything that I expected.

I think alot of the problems people have with this game is that they're playing it just like any other RTS. Most RTS's are pretty much build a base, build some units and slug it out. Supcom you pretty muchs start buy trying to make a fully automated war machine and they using your units to slug it out. Your able to pretty much que whatever action you want to take place. You have to build land, air and sea factories and then focussing this mass amount of firepower at a point. I generally have multiple factories of every kind, a massive air transport fleet to get everything in place. Everything is larger, more complex and grander than almost every other RTS i've played. And most importantly you almost never have to micro anything. With an average of 400 units in play that would be hell.

But back onto topic, cant wait for Sins to arrive.

you know, they haven't been posting any updates and they are all freaking out over the release date

I think this thing is going to come out WAY late feb or early march.

Give em time. I'd rather they were busy working on the game than on the forums giving us day-to-day updates.

its not impatience, just an objective observation.

crashcourse in deductive logic:
fact one: their deadline for the beta is this the end of the month
fact two: they are freaking out over their deadline (proof from statement that "[they] don't have time to update the board and release the beta in time")

Deducive statement: they are going to just barely get the Beta out in February

Simplification: We get the Beta this month, REJOICE!

For those of you intrested in Supreme Commander i suggest you turn hard to starboard and activate emergency thrusters at maximum militarypower. The game is all about building resource gathering, building like 400troops then throwing them against enemys 400troops and cross your fingers who wins (sadly i am not oversimplifying that one).

RT? it sure as hell doesnt deserve any word with like strategy or tactics in its description.

Sure as hell sounds like scaremongering but thats what im doing because i really do care about your wollets so buy another SoaSE and give it to a friend.< BR >

New to the forums by the way.

Sadly the release date here isn't until the 20th and I don't know anyone who would be willing to sell me a copy early even if they did have a copy in stock. I've played the beta and demo and it is a very fun RTS in which you can do lots of things and I can't wait to get it. SINS is a very different animal but looks just be just as fun, can't wait for it either

The release date for SUPCOM in my area is around the 22nd, but it doesn't bother me waiting a few more days then others.

Umbra Evito, if you played the game on a higher-level of play, you wouldn't be saying such things, as anyone going into multi-player quickly finds out when they are out-maneuvered, out-flanked, out-thought, and out-played on various levels.

From my limited single-player experience, the single-player game doesn't exactly force a player to think or act on a higher-level, and you can just mass troops to the point of absurdity then try to overwhelm a position with superior numbers. You cannot get away with that in multi-player for long, which leaves me to thinking that is where you are solely basing your impression from.

Also, the artificial players are a bit unpredictable in their competence on some maps, and is a flaw at the moment. This should be remedied by Gas Powered Games or a third-party modification at some point.

My experience does come mostly from singleplayer yes i admit that, but not solely.
The problem is the play-style in it self, if you like an RTS where the strategy and tactics consist more of resource management and the order you build things more than
combat itself then you have no problems, i for one dislike the very notion that you dont have more tactics in combat than the order you throw you units against your enemy.

But everyone makes their own mind, if you like massed RTS then this is like heaven to
you, those of you who want tactical combat will want to pass thin one.

It's for the hardcore RTS fans. After playing CoH, this seems too 'old-fashioned' for me.

Supreme commander is definitely not for the faint of heart. It will require a lot of thinking on the player's part. Those not interested in having very small tactical battles on small maps where a lot of micro wins the day, or very large battles with 100s of units on each side on medium to large maps, or thinking of the overall strategies about when to upgrade your economy and your army to the next level of technology, need not apply.

One thing is for certain... the game is definitely not for everyone. I see that as a positive. GPG didn't cater to the lowest common denominator to try and please as many customers as they could. My hat goes off to them for that.

Eh, im a uni student so every day is a holiday for me
That said, i would like the beta to come out in feb, im just itching at the possiblities of a vast solar empire to wage war with (im thinking the starlin doctraine of war...enough troops sent head on and no falling back!)
I'm a uni student too but I've got tests and assignments due soon. Bah!

enough of this SupCom crap. Im here for Sins, when is this beta getting released? It's already mid Feb. yikes. Any insiders want to comment on a round about date or even if its going to be out this month ?
I agree with mikeyjcl, SupCom is not Sins of a Solar Empire. I am more interested in the release date of the Sins beta then the release of SupCom.

Really, I wasn't sure why a game placed in the far future is entirely land/air/sea based. Aren't we forgetting something?

Score one for Servius

I'm pretty sure they're working to make the beta presentable. While it may be easier to just release a preliminary beta, and update with patches afterwards, first impressions are everything, and continually downloading patches is a drain on bandwidth and a waste of time for the beta testers.

This is probably why it takes so long.

This is probably why it takes so long

or perhaps this is a franco-prussian conspiracy to trap bright minded Europeans and Americans, track their IP adresses, kidnap them and ship them away to be mind-slaves for radical neo-soviets.

but in all likelyhood its just IC trying to make a good beta.

i dunno i did notice some wierd knocking sounds earlier today... BETA.

ok, I think our impatience is warranted right about now.
two months ago it was "early January"
last month it was "late january, early february"
now its "sometime late February"

does anyone besides me see a pattern... I apreciate quality, but the point of the beta is that WE participate in the quality-refinement process.
