Do These People Read What They Write?

I just read this in an off topic religion related thread on a forum. The whole thread was pretty polite and there wasn't really much flaming or bashing going on, but some of the statements made (on both sides) were moronic at best.

This person struck me as particularly humorous in the way he contradicted himself.

He says:

I just think people should be open-minded about everything

Ok, I have no issue with this. But then he follows it up with:

and I think religion kind of prevents that, by saying, for example "god said this, so it's a 100% inalienable fact."

Thus making a very closed minded statement.

And he then follows that with:

I just can't buy into that.

Which I found ironically hilarious given his first statement. If one is truly open minded then any possibility that hasn't actually been proven wrong must be considered and not tossed away out of hand.

I wonder if this guy even understands what he wrote?

The topic of conversation aside, I find this sort of self-contradictory pseudo intellectualism hilarious.

You gotta love the people who slam any other prejudice and then proclaim their open-mindedness.

I think that flogging in the public square is in order.

That's a bit harsh. I think a week in the stocks and a bit of public ridicule would do nicely.

That would at least allow them to do it again, so that the public ridicule can continue.

Now you're thinking. Nothing like a lovely vicious cycle.

Its hard to understand how these type of people do not see the contradictions in their positions. Love the public ridicule idea!

Well, I'm sure his position in and of itself is probably not contradictory in the strictest sense, but the way he presented it certainly is. (Which was my point). Some people tend to hammer something out on the keyboard without reading what they have just written and actually thinking about it.

The public ridicule idea seems to be gaining momentum.

Being as I was merely using his statements to exemplify my point, and as I am not in the habit of linking other forums, I didn't feel a link was needed. It's not like reporting factual issues or news stories where a link is required.

Get your mind back on track already!
