"Winter Wonderland" project

This is the "Winter" craft I have chosen for my students to do for their parents/guardians this year (we'll be doing it on Monday):




I have modified some of the steps and materials, such as substituting polyester batting with cotton balls, adding mini ornaments (such as little gift boxes, candy canes, and gingerbread men) and opting not to use a mirror as a base. Besides making a winter scene in the cup, they will also be gluing a school picture of themselves in the middle.

It might be a messy project, for we are using lots of tacky glue, but I hope it comes out alright. :)

It's cute, Rose. What grade do you teach? I'm sure the parents will love it and the kids will be proud of their creations. I love all of my boys homemade ornaments that they made at school.

Show a picture of one when your done if you can. I love these homemade ornaments as well. I wish my sons had you for a teacher!

5th grade. I am almost pretty sure they'll be able to handle this one.
I've had some mini disasters in the past (such as the paper mache easter
egg craft I did a few years back...lol).

I love the homemade ornaments!


So do I...this is not an ornament, but this is another holiday craft I found that I'd like to do:



You use a wooden ball (I guess you can also use foam)for the face and a claypot for the body.

I'm actually not as crafty as I wish I was (I'm a bit klutzy when it comes to stuff like this), but I like to give it a shot.

Oh cute! I have some of the mini pots and wooden balls in my craft cabinet that I used to make halloween pot people a few years ago might dig them out and make a snowman...What do the directions say to use for the hat and scarf? Or would you knit them yourself?

Actually, for the hat, they recommended kids' socks (and just cut off the toe area). As for the scarf, you can probably use any fabric that looks good. I am really hoping I have a chance to make these, but I can be such a procrastinator, though.

Well, we worked on these yesterday...couldn't show them since they had the kids' pictures in them (and I can't show their photos w/out permission), but for the most part, they came out nice.

btw, doc, the kids just got out for break today. They're happy and so am I.

That must have been a great project! I love it when my two older children came home with hand made projects, especially at Christmas time. In fact we do still have some projects on our tree. Amanda can't wait to begin school so she can add hers to it!
