Have any of you heard of the FreeOrion Project before? It is an open-source 4x game in the style of Master of Orion II. I discovered it a long time ago, and it is updated very infrequently, but from looking at the forums the project still seems alive and well.

I thought that since GalCivII is the definitive turn based space strategy game at the moment, some of you might be interested in seeing this other project or perhaps even helping out.

The wiki is not that informative, but the screenshots for the game look really good, and there is a working build available for download. I for one would like to see this project expand and come to fruition. What do you guys think?

actually, the game doesnt get updated that much and is in a playable alpha state more or less. I've watched the project off and on since early 05 i think. Its an interesting game but so far I would rather play Moo3 until FO gets up there in development.

The point of making this post was to bring people's attention to the game... If more people know about it, more people might help with it and it might get finished sometime sooner.

Not bad for a fanjob. But it's got ways to go, especially in the UI department.
