Carriers and Fighters?

Does GalCiv have carriers and fighters? I never seen any in the screenshots so I was just wondering.

I think the starbases have a module which can have fighters which add an attack strength (of +3?) to the base but the fighting in the game is much more strategic than tactical so I don't expect it to have carriers.

Oh I see, more likely a research for a bonus. I did look back at the screenshots and did notice some very small ships, those must have been the starfighters. Its more strategic scale like the game Hearts of Iron(which is a great game btw).

So the ship scheme for GalCiv is more along the lines of Star Trek, not Star Wars? Thats cool, I like ST better anyway ;p

(IE: Star Wars has huge capital ships that send out smaller fighters that scramble around them.
Star Trek has medium to large ships that fly more or less by themselves, but can mass into armadas of fleets)

The ability to mass medium to large ships into armadas or fleets is insignificant to the power of the Force.

The small ships you saw on the screen shots were most likely trading vessels. They are there as a representation of trade routes that have been set up between two systems. They are not user controlled in any way, however are rather vunerable to attack from those damned yor who have decided they don't llke me very much *grumble mutter*.. umm.. well.. anyway.. yeah

I think you need to position your ships along the route and actually defend it, no? SOunds like a good way for it to work to me.

I think the "escort" you can have is more akin to simply stacking the trade ship with the escorting unit ala Civ/Alpha Centauri....

No, the little mini frieghters that signify a Trade Route can't be stacked as the player doesn't actually control them. The best way to do it is to just patrol your TRs with ships...
