New Forum

Is it just me, or does anyone else hate these new forums? the new layout is horrible. i really don't like coming to them anymore because it just looks so bad and confusing. if it wasn't broke, why'd you guys fix it?

Well, this forum is handled the same way that other Stardock forums based on the same engine, like the Galciv2 forums. What is exaclty bad and confusing? Sure, it may require a bit of practice to be used if you have only experienced PHP based forums.

These forums are a vast improvement over what they replaced this past summer.  Also, while they may be ever so slightly non-standard, once you get used to them, you'll find in places they're actually more powerful than phpBB boards you see everywhere else.

There's a lot of custom code that needed to exist to make the forums tie easily into the rest of our community systems.  For GalCiv 2, your account ties to your purchase for digital download, forums and the metaverse.  If you wander over to those forums you'll often see little images at the bottom of comments indicating various bits of data gleaned from their metaverse account.  This sort of integration with our systems wouldn't have been possible with the standard boards out there.

It's confusing at first, but it doesn't take long to learn.

The layout seems simpler than the previous one. I kind of like the fact that without giant pictures/sigs it takes less time to load and there are more messages per page.

I don't suppose its asking too much to have an optional forum scheme? The current one is NOT easy on the eyes. Btw, the old forum did suck, becuase stardock didn't have their names all over it.

I personally liked the old forum, and have to say that there was nothing to improve upon it

although if it was all for the sake of integration... well...
maybe IC can teach you a thing about forum setup

One feature here mysteriously stopped working.....the "my posts" shows no posts made by me. Granted i only have a few posts, but I DO have posts.

i'm not trying to bash on the community or anything. i just felt the old forums were more "homely"

i agree with you ticks... the old forum was easier to navigate... this one seems more cluttered and tight and sqwished to me

you can easily aclimate to all those things. what really bugs me is that all there is to seperate the genius me from all you meh-ish people, is my name and a small 1.5cmx1.5cm picture.

Yea, on that topic I still haven't figured out how to change some of your profile information. Stuff like Location, Interests, IRC, Quote, and all that stuff. All I've found is how to mess with the pictures. And not being able to use gif's is kind of a bummer.

Oh, and have you noticed how that "NO PHOTO" picture stays in the background even if you have a photo? Just look at Schem's picture. It is shorter that the allowed 50 pixles so the NO PHOTO is clearly visible under it. And you can see the last O to the right of my pic too.

"My Posts" refers to threads you actually started while "My Replies" shows your posts in threads started by others.

Anyone else interested in making a SINs community forum seperate from this one? I'm just not buying Zoombas WW2 SS-esque propoganda that I will learn to like these forums.

Btw, I thought you were supposed to burn the customer AFTER they paid for it, not before? Ofc SINs will rock, but us junkies have been bringing more attention to this game then whatever advertising machine has thus far.. So maybe, just maybe we should be shown the slightest respect and get a place to commune that doesn't suck so bad.

So I'm part of the "advertising machine" Druid mentioned (it's more PR than advertising)... we've been hard at work the last couple weeks to make sure that the game gets a ton of exposure. The game was sitting at #12 overall among PC games at GameSpot last week, and is still holding on to a top-20 spot. For a strategy game that's still 10 months from release, that's phenomenal.

I've worked with some awesome fan communities -- I spent four years handling PR for Neverwinter Nights at BioWare -- and it's obvious that you guys are passionate about the game, and that's a very good thing. A strong fan community is vital to the success of any game, and hopefully you guys can work out your concerns with the forums to realize that the best thing for Sins is that everyone gets along, shares opinions about what can be improved, and move forward with the game.

(...) For a strategy game that's still 10 months from release(...)

That's going down on my memo board.
unfortunatly, i kind of stepped in on nwn when it was allready a few years old, so I don't know about your work, but It's nice to see that there ARE good PR people. (we were starting to doubt that)

NWNs a good game. I don't really watch TV or read all the Magazines/Gaming websites much.. Most games I play have come to me via either recommendations from friends or insta-purchases from EBgames. I think the only game I have ever bought that I heard from an ad was Final Fantasy 7 (They had one hell of an Ad running on TV when that game first came out).

Btw, GL with the advertising Tom. God knows I wanna see those multiplayer rooms packed when SINs comes out
