omg this game is hard.. help please

omg this game is hard.. help please

first of all id like to say ive read as much as i can on this forum and on the guides on this page, but most of the stuff just concerns either warfare or experienced players...

im a n00b who wants to play the game STRICTLY by using diplomacy and trade... well the problem is that neither what i do, if i go trade or warfare i always loose, even on cakewalk difficulty with everyone including me as good aligned i cant win...

if i go warfare i get sucky economy and people hate me, and my research is seriously sub-par, in fact no matter what i try i always lie behind in economy and research, the highest i have ever been in economy was something like 44, and each time i get a uptodate message of my empire it warns me that im seriously behind in research...

if i go diplomacy and trade, someone always comes and screwes this up... i played a game yesterday with cakewalk difficulty and all races including me good (so they cant hate me because i would have a different alignment than them)... it was progressing fairly well, i got up my two first freighters and send them to those E.T looking guys, a couple of turns later the wars start ploppin in with the messages of the likes "your army is sucky now you die, grr, me strong, you not muahahah" (not an exact quote LOL )

help me please, i really suck at this, im always last on technology, military and economy, i always have the least influence and in the end, even though i have all kinds of moraleboosting stuff my planets start leaving because of my sucky cultural influence...

oh and one more question, how do i colonise several planets in one solar system? i only seem to be able to colonise one planet per system...

im sorry if this became a long post, and i hope someone can help me...

Thank you for the positive feedback. Sirian set up the first two RBGC SGs, so I cannot take credit for that part. In fact, neither Sirian nor I can claim credit for the succession game idea. Many of us from RB were raised on Civ3 succession games, which date back at least two years. It seemed only natural to apply this to another turn-based strategy game. RB did the same when Master of Orion 3 was first released...

As to the next game, I have already put together the plan. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=133585

Unfortunately, several of us wanted to push the limits, so this one is at Maso. I expect that we will put together more SGs at crippling or painful once AP and the next patch are released. Stay tuned.

To Poisoned Acid, if you visit the Diplomats forum we have a small walkthrough that may help you in learning the basics of the game. Here is the link

And to make it clear I am NOT asking you to join our empire. ;)

thank you all, thanks to your tips the United Earth Directorate (yes yes i know i ripped it from starcraft, but it just sounds so cool) is the uber leading empire in the galaxy, for example we have an income of 1300 per month thanks to trading techs with all the races :)
but now i have another prolem, i have a hard time to keep morale at a high, i build all kinds of morale boosting things i can find and i have taxes at 0%, still i only have like 48 morale and decreasing... help! i might think its because of overpopulation, since i have only 3 planets, but theres nothing i can do about that...

Put the people in colony ships and get them out of your planet. and keep them in orbit.

Put the people in colony ships

I use transports instead for a couple of reasons - they're reuseable unlike colony ships and it means you've always got combat troops handy :) for any new minors that pop up and your are going to need transport to win at some point anyway.

Really? And that will get morale up?!
It'll also get population down. Usually the only reason I want high morale is to be able to support a high population, so I don't ever use this technique. (By the way, it won't do anything if you keep the ships in orbit.)

so I don't ever use this technique

Use it once you've built a few morale improving structures. 100% morales give alot of bonuses I think.
Hmmm...0% taxes and morale is still going down? This not only sounds like excess population, but also an enemy destabalizing you. You should certainly keep an eye on your morale for a while. Always remember, you don't need to build every improvement available. Concentrate on getting some of the population off-planet and quickly increasing your morale. If you have a constructor sitting around, try to get morale resources. And increase your espionage to combat any enemy destabalization.
okay, thanks again!.. well how do i increase espionage?
oh and why i think of overpopulation is that sol alone has like 10 billion inhabitants

When you go to the diplomatic screen you can click to speak to the different races, in the bottom part there are to sliders, one says desestabilization and the other espionage, move the slide for espionage and you will start to spy on the AI, becareful to not over spend in espionage.

You may need to register to access Mayito's walkthrough. The walkthrough is found http://diplomats.galciv.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55

Here is what he says:

These are just few rules for the beginner players. Many of these ideas were created by strategist EBZero.

1-Start with a good planet PQ19 or higher (PQ= Planet Quality), when you start the game you click in your homeworld planet and you will know what PQ has. (if the PQ is too low hit Ctrl-N until you get a good starting position).
2- Star with map size tiny or small.
3- Try to get a good position in the map, I prefer center or close to the center of the map that way your exploration vessel can reach each corner of the map.
4-Check all the victory conditions until you are familiar with the game.
5-Colonization Rush, set your taxes to 50%, research 0%, social production 0% and military production 100%, also set your expenses to 100%
6-Try to colonize as many system as you can, 3-7 will be good.
7-Send your exploration vessel to every corner of the map trying to make contact with each AI's race.
8-Change your military production to 0% and your research to 100%.
9-Research the basic techs that you will need to build your social-production-military structure, such as:

*Communication Theory
*Universal Translator
*Diplomacy
*Propulsion Theory
*Cold Fusion
*Medical Theory
*Basic Environment Control
*Zero Gravity Research
*Industrial Theory
*Interstellar refining
*Nano-metal composition

10-Set research to 0% and social production to 100%, and began to build the following structures:

-Soil enhancement
-Habitat Improvement
-Manufacturing Center
-Fusion Power Plant
-Banking Center
-Research Lab.

(Quick note, if your funds start getting real low, trade techs with the AI's, I prefer in the beginning to trade only with the Minor races, get as much money as you can in the largest period of time, such as 100bc per 50 months)

Another quick note:
Use the planet with the highest PQ after it has finish building the Fusion Power Plant to build on it all your Wonders and Capitals, so as first step build on it your Manufacturing Capital and then proceed after that to build Diplomatic Translators, Tri-Strontium Steel, Aphrodisiac and Frictionless Clothing.

(To be continued)

Continuation

After you have built the last Wonder, switch back the Social Production to 0% and Research to 100% and then research

*Trade
*Advanced Trade

Switch them back again and build Economic Capital and Galactic Stock Exchange (remember use your highest PQ planet for these constructions, 99% of the time is going to be your homeworld)

As soon as Galactic Stoc Exchange is built switch then again and research Interstellar Business and Cultural Trade.

Switch again and build Ultra Spices and Galactic Exhibition.

After these are built switch and research the following techs:

*Interstellar Marketing
*Interstellar Capitalism
*Xeno Propaganda
*Artificial Gravity
*Controlled Gravity

Switch again and build

-Restautant of Eternity
-Propaganda Machine
-Gravity Accelerators.

These are just basic steps, you can alter some of them, omit some of them or add new ones, this walkthrugh works only for lowqer levels and small planets, if you wish to apply this strategy to bigger maps or tougher levels you must improve it.

Hope it helps.

The link is right. If you want to come "by hand", it is, in the public square, the help and support forum. And in this forum, it is the basic walkthrough thread.
Hope this help.

Thanks Theoden for posting the entire walkthrough here, since the link does require registration (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) ).

What is the Senate Halls? "A neutral meeting ground" for all GalCiv empires?
It's an alternate forum used by some of us. The Diplomats empire set it up, but many of us now post over there.

Last night I started my first real game (as opposed to just poking around the interface) and Mayito's brief walkthrough was immensely helpful. It served as a basic roadmap to get me started; without it I'd probably have just stared at the screen at times wondering what to do next.

Playing on a tiny map at cakewalk level, I began to feel like I was understanding the basic concepts. And most importantly, when it got real late, that old "Just One More Turn" feeling hit me... something I haven't felt with a game in long time :D .

So thanks Mayito and Theoden for helping jump start my game. Onward!
yes tylertoo, GC has done that to me too, i was sitting there gaming, knowing i had to sleep because i was to get up 06:00, but i just couldnt stop playing, i felt my empire would fall apart without me :)

Great to hear you've caught the GalCiv fever! It's a great idea to take your time with your first game or two and learn the ropes. Once you know a little bit about how the game flows, you'll begin to understand some of the intricacies this game offers.

Again, if you ever need any help just ask. We're all happy to help! :HOT:

Oh, by the way, speaking of good sources of info...you should check out this thread from the Strategies forum: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GS&id=90861#133641

It may help you further.

Yup, its good over there you should join - I'm not a diplomat and I post there regular :)

I just want to echo what Bam Bam says about the succession games. We who participate in the SGs are very much aware of the (unseen) audience and try to provide as detailed descriptions as possible of what we're doing and why.

I predict it's simply a matter of time until we start the "Blind, Slow, Always-War" Maso SG! :D :D

Be seeing you...

Yes, I plan to make reading the succession games my next "tutorial." (I hope to read through them during downtime at work, since I can't actually play here (:( )

So many thanks to those who take the time to write those detailed descriptions.

Right now, still in my first game, I can't build anything because it says "out of resources." Does that simply mean out of cash? Or are there other aspects to "resources"? Sorry for the truly basic question. I've started trading techs for $$ and that has helped, but I guess not enough.
Out of cash and also could be that your domestic screen you have your social or military production set to zero, if you military is set to zero you cannot build ships, if your social is set to zero you cannot build anything in the planet (civilian structures or wonders)
