Report thread for Typos, Bad Grammar, Etc

Please post about typos, bad punctuation, and bad grammar and other language oriented "bugs" here, if you have not already posted about them in one of the bug threads.  This will help keep the bug report thread from getting further out of control.  Please note that I can only handle this type of thing in the English language.    Please be detailed when making your reports.

When the Aliens invade and use things like Core Detonations, I am told that I used it instead of them.

Where did the edit-button go?

Just wanted to add, that this was not case when losing another planet and they used core-detonations again. This time it was them and not us who where blamed of having used it.

Edit: Here I have an edit-button... Is there a time limit after that you cannot edit anymore?

If you mean the edit post button you can only use it 15 minutes after making a post then it goes away.

In the start new civilization screen there is always an "s" at the end of your empires name in the "overview" box.

In the first Altarian Prophecy campaign, the first screen that sets up the campaign contains the sentence:

"Hyperdrive allows ships to travel great distances much more quickly then the old star gate network ..."

"then" should be "than".

The GC1.2 "severe drought" event has a typo in the "good" choice. It says "Friend of Foe" when it should be "Friend or Foe".

The ship description for the Battleship has a messed up phrase. It says "A powerful ship to strike fear in the eyes of our enemies". It should say "strike fear in the hearts of our enemies". :HOT:

Mission 4 briefing of Gal Civ Altarian Prophecy. Drengin Empire is used one too many times. It should say if the Arcean Empire declares war you will lose. (This is the one where Arcean Empire is a buffer between you (terrans) and the Drengin Empire )

Short/Small window display when Built Description of Trade Center is missing a comma.

Description says: "a powerful way for us to improve our economy, morale influence, and technology."

Needs comma between morale and influence ( "morale, influence" ).

In AP 1.49N[rc].002, if you go to "modify abilities" the description of trade routes is:

Trade Routes: A better Trade Rout Ability will ...

Again, in AP, the Player Setup screen, under "Overview", reads, "The Terran Alliance, under it's leader, player name...". "it's" is always a contraction for "it is". The sentence should read "The Terran Alliance, under its leader ..."

Checking on GC12 I see that this and the trade "rout" typo I mentioned are also in GC1.2.

Here are a few more (galciv 1.20)

Shipyard: 'A shipyard will make our ships built here will be more effective' - delete 2nd 'will'

Frigate: "...It costs quite a bit more than a battle cruiser but it has three times many hitpoints' - add 'as'

Advanced Quality Control: 'Provides this world a set of guidelines that will improve the quality of our ship construction' - add 'with'

Reinforced Hulls: 'Using deflector technology, we can make now make the hulls on our ships a bit stronger which increases their hitpoint value' - delete 1st 'make'

Alliance Victory: For alliances with all the major races you're not currently at war with to win through alliance victory.' - replace 'For' with 'Form'
Note: can the other races win the game this way???

3D Phasing: '...will allow travel to distance that previously were beyond comprehension' – add an ‘s’ to ‘distance’

Hyperspace: 'Hyperspace utilizes the equations quantizing gravity and space-time...' - replace 'quantizing' with 'quantifying' (or ‘quantising’??)

Advanced Trade: 'Getting other civilizations to agree allow us to have more trade routes is always a delicate issue' - add 'to'

Interstellar Negotiation: ‘learning to negotiate with alien civilizations requires an immense amount skill and determination' - add 'of'

I'd make some corrections to your corrections.

For ease of reading, I'd modify the first to 'A shipyard will make ships built here more effective.' The phrasing was awkward.

2nd, add a comma after 'battle cruiser'

3rd (Nitpick)The verb 'to provide' does _not_ demand the preposition with, but adding it might aid reading

4th-6th - no problems, good corrections

7th leave as is unless quantify was intended; quantize and qauntify ain't the dame thing dood...

rest good

Ok, up to date on this thread. Added these to my list.

Just a comment: the 'ize' ending is common usage in the US, while 'ise' is common usage in the UK.

Canada uses both interchangeably. :D

From English.str:
[TradeRoutesPara] "By looking at who's their doing trade with..." should be: "By looking at who they're doing trade with..." and the whole thing might be better rewritten without the passive voice.

"Our espionage department has aquired new sources that will keep us up to date on the trading situation of the %s. Now we can get a clearer picture of inter-species relations by looking at who is trading with whom."

Transmission ended.

As a pseudo-teacher of English, I usually stay out of English.str for fear of the grammar, but since I was just there...

A new darkness is spreading across English.str. I name that evil [TABLEALIAS EventScreen]. If we do not destroy it now, its evil will spread and untold millions will scratch their heads and say, "Huh?"

It's one of those "Where do I start?" things.

End transmission.

When you win the elections in the senate it says: "... continue to control of..." which should probably be "contiinue to have control" or just "continue to control".

Is this all some kind of, pre-fix preparation thing? [just a question]

No, Space Man 1, this is a thread where you can report bad gramar or spelling that you find at this site, or in the games. (Hope that is right, probably not.)

This thread was started during the beta program, for us to report those kind of errors. It can still be used for that purpose.
