Another Columbine?

almost

5 Kansas teens were arrested for planning to shoot several students and faculty members at Riverton High School. The shooting was supposed to take place yesterday, April 20, Adolf Hitler's birthday, as well as the anniversary of the Columbine shootings. The only difference, and why they got caught: Myspace.
The online web community that has been taking over youth all around the world was the teens way of communicating their plans to each other, and also for sending threatening messages. i believe that myspace, tho failing to moniter the content of the messages they sent, was helpful in catching these kids before they carried out their plan.
Riverton is a small town, even smaller than mine, which we'll call, "Inthemiddleofnowhereville".
At my school, the goth movement has been growing. every corner has turned into a darkened mass of tear stained faces covered with makeup. Most of them seem to hate the world, our school, and anyone who isn't just like them. They're all misunderstood and want to die. or so they say. i think most of it is made up to follow what is becoming "the in crowd". It makes me nervous to know there are so many kids at my school who'd have the guts to pull another shooting. i hope that never happens, and i always convinced myself it wouldn't because we're such a small town, but we're a city compared to Riverton.
so we'll see what happens. I hope those guys are punished as adults, because they're all old enough to know right from wrong.

It's creepy isn't it. I worry about my kids. It almost makes me want to homeschool. I guess we should just be glad that they were caught before it happened and hope that any other kids planning something like this know they will probably get busted.

It almost makes me want to homeschool.

Myspace is the Internet and Homeschooling will not protect them.

As for the article,  I agree with JLaur65.  They went beyond infantile fantasy.  They now need to learn the consequences.

yeah but it will protect them from some psycho kids deciding to go to school and blow everyone away. so far my kids aren't into myspace yet. I don't have it in me to homeschool but if I thought my kids were in real physical danger I would consider it seriously.

So that they then trust some pervert that goes door to door telling them he is doing free breast exams?

You cannot protect them from the world.  You can only prepare them.
