Does the World really need another Lawyer?

I'm about to finish up my Masters ( Liberal Studies) and I'm leaning toward going for a Juris Doctorate.
I've done well on the LSAT, and can even qualify for a "minority" scholarship at a local "Historically Black" College ( NCCU), it would only take another 18 months, the Bar exam,and viola, I'd be an Esquire.

I think I could help in the area of consumer advocacy, particularly in the field of Automobile Sales, particularly with the contractual and servicability issues that arise, not to mention disclosures requirements.

There is a lot of Bad Car dealers out there ( Shocking revelation, no doubt), and Federal and State laws allow for treble damages in most cases, so there is money to be made, but I would, in essence, be turning against the industry that put me where I am today.

Maybe I could consult Auto Dealers on how to comply with all the rules, regulations, and laws so they wouldn't be sued? The problem with consulting is it requires too much travel and marketing..........

Real Estate Law is boring, Criminal Law pays poorly, Corporate Law amounts to selling your soul, and then there's always the sleezy Accident and Injury market ( **now remember to tell the Judge your neck hurts** )

I just don't know.

It depends on your interests, really. We ALWAYS need more lawyers willing to take on the corrupt CPS system. If you could head in that direction, you could do a lot of falsely accused families a world of good.

I'm way too independent to "work for the man", so selling the soul really isn't an option, and it's not really a money thing, just an economically viable option that I'm looking for.

I'm doing the Scout Camp thing again this summer, and Scouting has expressed an interest for me to come on full time, but it's mostly fund raising and organizing volunteers, with very little direct Scout involvement....it would not be as much fun as teaching climbing.

I think I'm trying to stall doing anything, and education has been a great retreat, while still being productive.

Business has been great, but I'm so very tired of it, and my oldest son wants to do his own thing, and I can't turn over things to the unwilling, so I have to consider other options to occupy my time.
I preferably want rewarding options, and economic reward has to be considered...to a point.

I personally dispise Social Workers; meddlesome, condecending, self-important, psycho-babbling, victimhood creating, rumourmongers that they are.
They are, in my opinion ,the very leeches on our society
that maintain the socio-economic divide, soley to insure their continued "Need".

That being said, it would be rather difficult for me to be objective............

Sounds like you're the type of person we NEED, frankly.

Think about it. Even if you didn't make big money defending families against these cretins, you could leave a POWERFUL legacy.

Heck, maybe I could even do paralegal work for you once I finish my studies.

I put my ex-husband through law school. So I have had this discussion before. If you decide to go to law school, you have three years to figure out if and how you want to specialize. My ex was gung ho about litigating; he was all for the courtroom show. During law school, he figured out that business law was really interesting (to him). You won't know till you've had a look from the inside.

I agree. I just finished my degree as a non-traditional student. I love my job...and they pay me.

We're seriously making progress, dyno. I have to keep the exact details on the downlow, but I actually have a few publishers sniffing out our story, and the Homeschool Legal Defense Association is pursuing a Constitutional amendment that would ensure the rights of parents to direct the upbringing of their children. So, we are gaining momentum pretty quickly.

I second MM's hell yes!

Congrats and definately go for it Dyno! I for one would love to see someone out there getting these corrupt car people out there to be truthful and honest in their dealings with the public. Since you know so much about the biz you would be sooo effective too! Go for it!

I doubt it. Those that "sell out" do so because they CHOOSE to do so.
