News of their flashy romance is unavoidable, but personally I don't really care one way or the other.

He's a nice looking man and a decent actor, but a real weirdo. She's a cute girl who apparently is coming into some success with movies, oh and she was in a hair product commercial.

That's the entirety of my thoughts about Tom and Katie.

How many Hollywood romances really stand for more than a few years? Right off the top of my head, I can only think a a handful, and they're all from the "Golden Age".

Bogie & Bacall (she was his 4th wife) were married 12years (he's 25yrs older)
Spencer Tracey stayed married to his wife of 44years while carrying on his affair with Hepburn for 27years until he died. (he's 7yrs older)
Joanne Woodward is Newman's second wife they've been married 47years. (he's 5 yrs older)

Anne Bancroft and Mel Brooks married 41 years before death did they part it was the second marriage for both of them.
Gena Rowlands was married for 35 years before her first (only) husband passed.
Olympia Dukakis celebrates 43 years of marriage this year (only)
Martin & Janet Sheen will celebrate their 44th Anniversary in December. (only)

From the "now" Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been married for 17yrs (his second her only)
Mel Gibson married his first and only wife in 1980
Judy Davis has been married for 21years as have Bette Midler and Martin von Haselberg (first)
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been "together" for 22years (she's 6yrs older then him)
Bonnie Hunt got married in 1986 so did Gov Arnie (first for all)

and by even more "now" Ryan Phillepe and Reese Witherspoon have been together/married since 1999.
William H Macy and Felicity Huffman wed in 1997 (first marriage for both)

Warren Beatty & Annette Benning have been married 13years. (and he's 21years older then her)

IF (and it's a pretty big if) Tom & Katie are really in love they could last the distance they ARE actually in some pretty good company. He was married for 3 years and 11years to his first two wives)

Interesting...thanks for the input. I still think it's some kind of PR stunt, though. I could be wrong, but they've done weirder things. "Bennifer" to buck up a lousy movie springs to mind. You got no chemistry onset, then no chemistry offset, either.

Old Tom also made an ass of himself on Jay Leno...but it seems like he'll tell anyone who'll listen about how much he loves Katie. Cruise was even on 106 & park yesterday talking about it. I mean come on, enough already!!!

Good point, and very true. Unfortunately, the celeb-crazed media culture we have makes it hard when an A-or-B-lister gets it together with someone.
I have to wonder if there would have been as much fuss if he'd gotten together with the "nobody" girl who perhaps rang up his groceries or sold him his shoes?

Good points! If he did get together with a nobody they might still do it, who knows! The media is just out of control!

I think they would....remember Liz Taylor and that contractor guy she met in rehab....his name was Larry something...Fortensky, I think it was. He was a nobody and just wanted her for her money.
They didn't make quite the fuss over him that they do other celeb marriages, but then, that was a few years ago.
