Solo and Ensemble is this Saturday… and I am very nervous. Here is the story on my solo (Intermezzo).
I always like a challenge, so I have been doing Class B solos (Class A is extremely difficult and Class C is fairly easy) for the past two years now. This year, I have been extremely busy with everything and I wasn’t paying much attention to my solo or ensemble piece.
In fact, I never picked up my horn over Christmas break except to practice my honor band audition piece… and when she asked for the names of our solos I picked the one in the front of my folder (I was thinking about that one, but I never even played or looked at it).
I have been very stressed out with everything the past 2 weeks… from relationships to my music. So, the first time I ran through my solo was about a week and a half ago. And I didn’t practice over the three-day weekend either.
I stayed after school today to practice along with the piano… The accompaniment is extremely difficult and the piece at first was very difficult to put together with mine. But, after the 3rd try, we have it fairly well.
Ms. Meyer walked in and I ran through it once with her watching. She said that she was impressed and I would do good Saturday… sitting in shock, I just nod my head.
Then, she was trying to convince me that I was absolutely meant to play the horn… and the sad thing is Mrs. Moore agreed.
I’m flattered, but I’m still worried about my solo… the jumps I have, and the way it fits with the piano is very “interesting” to say the least. It is a beautiful piece… it feels very romantic and reminds me of the piece I played last year entitled “Romanze” (which is also a very romantic piece)
Our ensemble is going to do alright too… Keeping the same tempo is the only thing that’s really killing us.
And All-County (Honor band) is tomorrow! I absolutely can’t wait… I actually like to play with a group of people who are actually serious about music. Some of these people are astounding. There was this guy last year, I think his name was Drew, and he played the trumpet better than anyone I have seen… and I am not exaggerating. I don’t know if he graduated last year or not, but if he didn’t everyone should come to the concert next Monday, if anything to watch him. It’s utterly amazing. I am just thrilled that I got 5th chair!!!!! : )
Wish me luck!
Sam
