Here is some fanfic about Sins of a Solar Empire.
We have rediscovered the sword of our empire, the Vorastra class titan. Decades of digging through the files of our fragmentary records have unearthed ancient activation codes for these mighty ships that once lead the dark fleet into the void. Thankfully, we also have access to massive phase gates that, combined with the Vorastra's highly advanced phase drive, allow us to transport the ship to our position across hundreds of light years, tunneling deep into phase space. Though our ancestors damned us, they were an eminently practical people and their foresight may yet save our descendants.
The Vorastra's phase drive is made to impeccable standards, allowing it to make in gravity well phase jumps. Our phasic scientists have poured over this feature, searching for any scraps of information they could use to improve our own ships. Their efforts have, however, been stymied, since the Vorastra is made out of incredibly strong and flexible materials we cannot recreate, instead merely reinforcing. Perhaps, with time, we will rediscover the secrets to creating these materials.
Another effort to increase our mobility has been the stocking of phase stabilizers aboard these great ships, ready to be deployed in an instant. The fragmentary data about the ship indicates they originally carried assault pods, full of shock troopers for boarding actions, however, in all the ships we have recovered said pods were inoperable, and were broken down for materials. Besides the ability to deploy stabilizers allows us mobility to bypass enemy defenses, something sorely needed since the coalition and Advent humans entrenched themselves.
Another example of the ad hoc measures our engineers have taken is overloading the power transmitters on the Vorastra's weapons, allowing it to deal more damage. This is generally done in concert with systems to redirect the energy of enemy weapons, improving resilience. While these processes damage the incredible preservation systems aboard the ship, we have little choice; our desperate straits require sacrifice to survive.
Finally there is the destructor nanites found in the frontal maw of the ship. These can be sent out in a cone from the front, deconstructing enemy ships and recovering useable resources. The amount of safety measures around them have stymied all but the most experienced engineers from activating them, nonetheless I have seen them in action and know they are not to be underestimated. More than their tactical utility, they have offered us an even greater boon. Reverse engineering the AI and resource allocation systems of these nanites has allowed us the possibility of strip mining worlds within weeks, and asteroids in days. With the technology of the ancestors, we will be able to deconstruct any enemy worlds we take and keep their resources for perpetuity. While the moderates say this is abominable, I know it is necessary, like all the other sins we have committed to save our species! The coalition has turned their backs on us, fortifying their worlds, while the wrathful Advent become ever more focused on their petty crusade. We will not be getting the resources we need from diplomacy, so we must take them by force! Once we have prepared the new nanites and AI, we will need only a few weeks to take what is owed us and leave these savages to starve. We gave them a choice and they refused it. We must make sure that some of us survive and they will not listen to us, so let us give them the mercy of a swift death.
