Loving the game, even bought several copies for friends. I am an old fan of SC2, and used to tear up as Chmmr or Mycon ships. I fear that my focus in the game these days is on the exploration, humor and dialogue much more than the ship combat, so I bought the AI Fleet Coordinator as one of my first modules. Overall, it seems to do well with most of the mainstay ships, like Mukay and Tywom, and some loadouts on the Vindicator, though there is definite room for improvement. I did have an instance where my ship got locked into a spinning match with another, neither firing even when they closed into range, but that has been a one-off so far.
My main troubles with the module came with the Xraki fleets, this revealed to me some of the frustrating weaknesses of the module.
- While it does well in regular ship on ship combat it does well, but when you add in the shields and infinite fighters, some ships AI completely falls apart, Mukay have no idea how to handle this and Tywom charge into the fighter lasers.
- I wills ay the Tyom ship does fairly well against the Xraki, so I loaded my fleet up with them on another attempt, this revealed another weakness
- The Ship selection with the AI Fleet Coordinator seems to be completely random. I have 5 Tywom ships here, it uses 1, takes out 2 shields, then sends the Vindicator right on out. On another pull we go Mukay, Syndicate Cruiser, Terran, Tywom, Tywom, Vindicator... still 3 more Tywom in the box. I did this for a couple hours and put it up. I don't want to disable the module, but I guess I will have to load up at Sol and remove it at this point.
My suggestions:
- Allow us to handle the ship selection portion with the AI Fleet Coordinator, perhaps with an AI Select/Random button.
- Allow us to Enable/Disable this one module in-flight, perhaps at the Ship Selection screen before every round.
Just my input. There is a great game here that I look forward to seeing grow and improve over time. Please consider my improvement suggestions.
