Ever since I've heard about the Adventure Studio feature in Star Control Origins, I've been intrigued; I love the idea of making my own Star Control story.

...or, rather, Star Control style story.

See, thing is, I've got some ideas in my head for stories...but if I'm limited to using the aliens that come with SCO, the most I can do is fan fiction; it might be asking too much of players to let me re-imagine the races in the game as completely different, culturally, with different names, etc.

Alas, I'm told we won't have--or won't have right away; the details were fuzzy--a kind of Spore-style alien creation system, but that there will be some options for having our own alien races.

So, moving this topic from a thread where it was actually way off topic, and continuing it here, I'm curious for details on what we can do. For example:

- Will there be a method of importing 3D models from systems like 3DS MAX, Maya, or Blender?

- I'm told we can use GIF files; will there be a way to go from idle-animation to speech/emote-animation and vice versa without jump cuts? Short transition animations that link the end of one to the beginning of the other and back?

- There was also talk of making creature in Spore, exporting those files to another format, and then importing that into SCO; they wouldn't lip-sync, but they'd be in the game.

For that matter, what will our options be for speech? I have some friends who would love to voice-act in projects; can we do more than just text in our own custom adventures? (I may've titled this thread badly; I actually would like a detailed run-down on how the Adventure Studio is gonna work. But since displaying aliens was the topic in the other thread, this was the title suggested by one of the moderators.)

Playing SCO is something I'm really looking forward to; the idea of a customization tool for building our own stories was a wildly unexpected bonus, and one I'd really like to play with. Kind of inspired, but I don't want to let my hopes for what I can do run away with me before I even know what the system is capable of...so...if any kindly developers out there could give a synopsis of how this'll work, I'm all ears.

I mean, I'll have one, but unless they have added aroma-capability to online video (ew!), I'm not metaphorically all nose.
