I had an idea I thought was so good I just had to share. A specific game of the month challenge mode. On the first of every month add an option under new game to play the game of the month. It doesn't have to be hand crafted, just a randomly generated map with set game options that is the same for everyone. You can only play it once that month and high score wins. Might have to be online only to prevent mods/save scumming/cheating. I think civfanatics runs something similar unofficially thru their website for the civ games. Spelunky's daily challenge is another inspiration.
I think it would be a good way to explore all the different game options and races, as all the start up options are a bit overwhelming to me. Competition is always fun too. You could also tie it to the whole metaverse thing.
It could also be helpful to the devs. It being competitive people will use every advantage they can. Devs could look at the top scores and identify exploits and balance issues. It would also be a good place for Frogboy to steal strats for the AI.
Now if you really wanted to go nuts with it you run this for 8 months. Winner of each month (or the top scorer who has not already won a month), gets a birth into the finals. An 8 player livestreamed multiplayer match to crown a champ. An edited youtube replay would probably be appreciated depending on how long that would take. Of course you gotta have a prize for the winner, cash, 3D printed ship of your choice, etc...
So what do you guys think?
