Battle scene not entered when attacking a minimg starbase belonging to pirates.

The mining starbase originally belonged to a civilization whose worlds flipped to my civ.  Pirates took it over.  When I attacked the starbase (to release the ressource) the battle menu was not visibly entered.  I could heard the firing sounds but that was it.   The game hung after that, I couldn't do anything else with it.  Tried pressing the ESC key in case it was in the menu part at the end of the battle (even though it wasn't displayed) but no dice.

This sounds similar to the problems I've been having in invading planets in .81.  I've described what I'm seeing in the last few posts in this thread.

I've seen this myself not specifically with pirates just general battles, when it happened for me, after force closing the game and relaunching, the game crashed the computer.  Didn't have any of the files to submit ticket however, if happens again I will be.

I've submitted the debug.err files I've been left with, but I haven't gotten any crash .dmp files to submit.  And when I load the autosave and try the battle again, it doesn't hang.  It seems to require some number of battles before it happens.
