Two cosmetic issues I have and I wonder if you agree.

I would rather that stars turn into a star symbol when the map is zoomed out. I find the multi colored full 3d star models a bit distracting when zoomed out.

Also, am I alone in not liking the perfect hexagon culture borders? I'd rather see something more rounded and organic.

1. The colors of the stars are informative, or are supposed to be. The colors give an indication of where the better planets might be. This is particularly important for when the super planets get introduced. Stay tuned.

2, IRC, in GC2, the smoothing of many kinds of lined -- influence, trade paths, etc. -- didn't happen until the last one or two builds of the beta. Stay tuned.

While I'll agree that the hex cultural borders don't look the best, the alternative would be confusion over exactly which tiles are within your borders. Personally, I'll take clarity over pretty 10 times out of 10.

Not necessarily, Civ V has nice organic borders and uses a hex grid. It can be done well.

I have come to like the present culture borders. They represent a different aesthetic, one where accuracy of mapping matters to spacefaring races. Organic borders, as you call them, wouldn't make sense to the Yor, would they? This representation is one that all races could use on their display technology. Embrace the hexes!
