I have a request to the developers that I don't believe would be too hard to implement and would add great immersion into your game that is so personally focused, plus I love the art style of SK and would love to see more of it in game.
You see I've been recently playing Endless Legend and really dig their art/style and part of that is how unique all their races are - how immersive they make the game feel when you play a different race.
I realize that in Sorcerer King your basically one race (human) which is totally cool AND also always you to extended the visuals in very unique ways via by adding two basic features/art assets into the game. The first of which would be very easy to do.
They are:
1. Unique Sovereign Castle Art Assets
Basically unique art assets for each specific sovereigns main structural castle or capital city (whatever you want to call it) and helping immerse you into the appearance that your playing a different sovereign each game. This would simply require 5 new art assets to be added/created (and MAYBE for a really bonus some extra special effects or sounds?) but would only appear in one city (the starter city?) but could move moved later in game.
So for example:
The Warlords's main town is the castle as it appears now in game. (that makes sense)
Wizards main structure might ibe a wizard tower with a SF effect of magic swirling around it.
The Priest might have a large temple or cathedral in its center.
A Tyrants might look dangerous in appearance, maybe like Sarumans creepy tower surrounded by lush forest but this really ominous central structure.
Guardian sounds almost like he'd have a rivendale like town? (though his terraforming abilities make me think more choatic like in appearance)
Tinkerer would have a near steam punk appearance or maybe a giant observatory, ect.
Now clearly the town expands around the central keep/castle and those art assets don't need to be altered - its just the central appearance of the capitals main structure/castle that should be different based on Sovereign and the type of place they'd call home (hence they capital like the White House).
I think this would have an immediate visually impact in game that would be much appreciated and again simply replacing/creating 5 new art assets for each central castle certainly wouldn't require much assets or time.
Let me put it this way, Saruman had his Orthanc - Sauron had Barad-dûr (which was FRICK'N AWESOME), King Aragon has Gondor and while I know I'm relying heavily on Tolkien references I think they make the point best - each of these powerful men had structures that uniquely identified them and their "personality" and I think the Sovereigns of Sorcerer King would greatly benefit in the same way.
I do understand the each Sovereign does have their own unique units but it would make just as much sense they'd have their own unique central structure to identify them since you spend a lot of time in your main town too. Perhaps you could move the structure to another town eventually via a spell or such/steep cost. Honestly it really adds the immersion and eye candy, something I think many people can agree with.
2. Faction Flags and Coat of Arms
Okay this is more an idea as it is a request, inspired partially by all the cool flags and colors of Game of Thrones we see their armies wearing.
I think it would be really cool if we could select are sovereigns flag/faction that would appear throughout their kingdom (heck maybe even along roads if you build them!) and with their armies as a coat of arms. Also providing in a sense different colors to are kingdom/unit each game and expanding on the idea of "factions" from previous Elemental games.
Perhaps even a flag barrier unit could be created that gives your armies bonuses in combat and comes in two forms - mounted and unmounted.
In the sense of game lore - people rallying to a cause to a flag or symbol is very historic - so in a sense your sovereigns flag would inspire people too in the game world and give them hope vs the Sorcerer King.
While certainly not a massive feature it would add some personality to your kingdom and make are armies feel more authentic, plus adding faction flags could be fun simply to change things up each time you play (in a sense making it feel like your not using the same army over and over each game) adding more immersion into the world of Elemental.
You could use pre-existing faction flags from Elemental games OR develop new ones since the timeline is different, but maybe we could see how those flags developed from these ones. Either way its a minor but fun little request/idea.
Well I hope somebody hears these ideas! I really think the first one would really add to the game and again I'd love to see more art assets developed for it, for us to enjoy in game.
