Some random suggestions after some playtime.
Planet Management screen
All these suggestions are about giving me more feedback so I can make choices more easily.
- The build menu needs some improvements - overall this is so I can more clearly see what's available to build
- I don't like the filters at the top. I think it would be better to have collapsible categories inline. It can be difficult to see where improvements end and where ships begin in a longer list
- I would like improvements to indicate what class they are (wealth, population, etc). A small icon would suffice
- Placing improvements needs some enhancements too
- Ability to 'paint' improvements, by clicking an improvement I should just be able to single-click each hex to place it in
- I want to see the class bonuses of each tile - right now I need to hover over each tile (make it a toggle perhaps)
- When placing an improvement, I would like to see a 'what if' display that would show me how it would be improved by the tile and surrounding improvements as well as what impact it would have on surrounding improvements already built. The green 'link' icon is not really sufficient
- Better feedback from the map
- Give me some toggle options so I can hide/show the following
- Improvement names/types
- Hex bonuses
- Hex features (the icons that always appear)
Galaxy screen
The main issue I have with the galaxy screen exists from GalCiv2. I spend more time zoomed out to see the wireframe icons instead of the nice graphics. This is because the level of information is lacking when zoomed in.
- I would like to see the names and details of all objects - probably best as a toggle. The key item here is the class of a planet and whether I can colonise it. I also find it a little hard to discern between debris and asteroids.
- Now some 'fluff' that might be nice as eye candy
- Some traffic between planets - perhaps only trade routes, but general space traffic would be neat
- Some more moons, I think only Earth has a moon at the moment
That's enough for now. I don't really want to comment on anything else as little else has enough features. The key message from me is feedback! I like to see as much as possible at a glance (without making the entire game a spreadsheet). I think that civ5 has a good level of information (with the toggles on).
