For units that can build roads (ex: commanders), is there a way to automatically build roads rather than moving 1 square and clicking road?
I do not know of anyway of doing this... it is a tedious way to build roads to say the least.
I don't think there is an auto-cast button whenever one moves from a spot to another.
Yeah it's a seriously annoying problem at this point.

I don't really see this as a problem. Just get the tech that allows roads to outposts and you can put up roads pretty easily. The build roads skill is pretty useless as you pointed out however.
It's really slow and that requires clicks. It's a huge micro problem when you've got a large empire.
Building roads is far from useless and can allow huge progress very early in the game which translates into immense late game power by saving many early turns. I agree that building roads requires a lot of micro and that it would be great if there was some sort of "build road to x location" or even auto-cast function.
That's exactly what people are asking for.
