I tried Icewind Dale like 5 years ago but had a hard time understanding how it worked. Was pretty new to games that were "Realtime with Pause" back then.
This time is good to try them out as any.
Only one I played seriously was Knights of The Old Republic. Need to finish that one day. Really, really good!
Never got the hype, really. I figured out who is bad guy before I started playing.
Though I was laughing at blaster shootouts - and I though NWN1 had bad shooting.
(And I have never played neither Mass Effect nor Dragon Age. Need to get around to those too!)
Beware, it may hurtz. A lot.
I know, I'm risking to evoke ParagonRenegade's fanboyizm seizure, but since I was there when shitstorms happened, I suggest to tread lightly through Dragon Age and skip DA2 entirely (DA:O and DA:A are nice, just don't pick up fighter - you risking to sprain your jaw waiting for combat to end), and I suggest to consider Mass Effect has ended in ME2. If you'll risk ME3, first try to see original release first, then one with DLCs, just to join the club.
You don't know if there's coming some Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition? I'd try it.
Why would you need one? Originals ran pretty well. Unless you have three huge monitors, that it.
If not, how do I get more control? I was into Diablo II back then and the lack of control over the characters in Icewind Dale (not to talk about creating a party!) made me give up.
Eh? What control? Party members in IWD are quite easy to control as is, and I don't need them to ran all over the map with high "initiative". They perform basic actions, that enough. If you want, you always can adjust their behavior, though I never did that - they performed as I wanted. Tactical pause and all that.
