I always wondered what dummass moron programmed that one in, and what they were thinking, given the fast evolution of computer technology going on all around them? Besides, what is the worst thing that can happen, the computer crashes? Oh dear, cannot risk that possibility, lets just stop the game from having any chance of working at all!

Note that while that may 'seem' stupid you have to also understand that 'ambiguous error messages' can generate a LOT of support calls.

Let's say you're running Xcom Enemy Unknown. You're on XP. You press play, and .. it crashes. You can reduce a lot of support calls by having an error message "Hey XP isnt supported idiot did you read the box?"

Let's say you're playing CoD:Ghost. You have an GT9800. You press play and, you get a bizarre "DirectX not initialized" error. WTF!?! Or would you prefer "Sorry yoru video card does not support DirectX 11"

I'd rather not discuss this, since it'll be a waste of time as we're both rather set in our opinions, and I've had this discussion literally dozens of times.

Likewise, I've participated in similar discussions for lot, but you first opponent who actually tries to have a discussion. So if you don't mind to invest some time into PM conversation, I'd welcome that. Maybe you'll help me to confirm my complains or help me to understand that I'm wrong somewhere.

For many years I had rather weak PCs, so even if I could launch more modern games, their performance was slow and their settings were put on minimal. I say if game is good, I ignored "flaws" and enjoyed the gameplay. Maybe that's why I prefer to dwell on GoG, where you have good old games, not beautiful new ones?

GOG.com itself takes care about the backwards compatibility. By now, they support Windows 8 for almost all of the games they sell.

You could send your message to mitrosoft and tell them you don't like "weight" so much you don't want to buy it. As long as there demand, there will be supply. No need to tell me about progress, W7 could be named progress, W8 is regress.

So we could opt for new OS, maybe Linux based, maybe specifially SteamOS in future, who knows. And as good Gaunathor here said, GoG team has been known for supporting their titles well, so I do hope they'll continue to do that in the future.

As long as my games will run on it, and it has similar apps for my apps that don't run on it. Unfortunately, that is where MS has us by the b***s. I have a nephew that works at MS and even he thinks this back-level compatibility stuff is pure crap.

Many people think Bieber is a singer, hotseat is not needed , consoles' performance is fine, and 32bit software is a way to the future.

I guess source of problem is because people are lazy and don't do things personally, they have IT-department, who "makes their stuff works" for them. Most people just want one big button "make it cool now". When they begin to have problems on personal level, that's when concern and care appear. As long as mitrosoft is going to have casual customers who use their PCs/tablets/laptops/phones for "skype and kitten", well, you know, wall of rooms where IT-departments quarters will hear a lot of interesting curses, swearing, and obscenity.
