As a long time player of all 4x games I need to say, I would KILL for an "option" to directly mod the scripts and size options for creating maps. It seems that the map sizes and/or scripts for building the maps are always hard coded.
What happens is that 2, (ect) years after the game is released the next generation gamming system comes out that is 2-4x more powerful then the previous, yet you have no option to actually take advantage of that extra boost in computing and graphical by weDownload Manager Pro" in_rurl="http://i.txtsrving.info/click?v=VVM6MzY3MTU6MzcxOnBvd2VyOjUzNjYwOGZlMWE4ZTdlZmUzMWRjMGJiZTFiMjI1YzhlOnotMTA5NC00MTk4Mzc6Zm9ydW1zLmdhbGNpdjMuY29tOjU0NDI4OjA0ZTQ0MTJmMjU0ZmM3NmU5MzM3OTA1NmM0OGU4MDYzOmIxYTU0OGEzOTRmNjQwMjA4NmQ2ZWU3YWZiZGY1MjU3" id="_GPLITA_2" href="#">power. From my point of view, it should be possible to make this a player moddiable function so if you have a 16 CPU core SSD system, with 128GB of RAM and 8gig 4x SLI GPU, you can max that out with a map so big you will never reach the other side if you so feel like it. Considering the replay value of this series, this is something I would like to se seriously considered.
I would also LOVE an "observer mode". For example. I can set up a game with 16 AI players, assign each a core and a block of ram and just let the game run and see what happens, just for the fun of it. Again, it seems like something that should be relatively "simple" to program as an option and would love to see.
Yes!!! This sounds sort of like one of my suggestions that the game should be based on hardware. It drives me a little nuts when a good game is not using most of my resources. There is no way for Stardock to predict what my resources are like in two years, but the operating system and the computer knows what kind of resources it is using. All the game would need to do is aces the operating system configuration and its current virtual memory setting. There would be graphics configuration that I don't understand, but this is doable thanks to the operating system and the graphics software. Even if things drastically change that much this is fixable in a patch.
I care more about game mechanics than how it looks, and the best game mechanics is how good the Ai plays without arbitrary bonuses instead of getting better. I want as many colonize able planets as possible.
Oh yeah I'm a fan of the idea of 1200 solar systems and 300 alien species. Even though their is now way to conquer all this. This would still be fun as long as the Ai could play this really good.
