- Not sure if this falls under UI, but I would love a menu system off of the main menu where you can pre-select which units/heroes/sovereigns are to made available to yourself and to the AI, and to which AI, in a given game. Options to 'edit', 'disable' or 'delete' these aswell. Also an option to 'disable' the defaults if you don't want them to see play (deleting them may be unforgivably bad).
The system could be organized in a split screen tree-design.
- On the right hand side you can see which factions have access to which units/heros/sovereigns. The tree can be expandable to help keep the work area clean. Faction -> Sovereign -> Units/Heroes. Each item could have a checkbox that would disable the availablity of said unit...if you did not want it in the next game.
- On the left hand side can be a list of all available units/heros/sovereigns....all editable. Perhaps an option to 'make copy' if you want to slightly change the design.
- Therefore, designing a unit could be done from here....and associating it with factions could be as simple as click and drag. (or an option to right-click and 'make available for all')
- As an aside, I'd love for the physical directory structure where the units/heros/sovereigns are placed to include another set of subdirectory to help organize those custom unit files even further into their factions. Trying to keep 200 units organized from one directory, which belongs to which faction, all in my head is a very painful and confusing prospect.
- When obtaining a new item there are currently only 2 options: Equip and Ok. Equip will equip the item without giving you the knowledge that the new item is better than the previous and then moves on to the next unit. Ok will do nothing and then moves on to the next unit. I offer up the suggestion that this menu to be expanded into 3 options:
- Equip: Opens the Equip screen so that you can make an informed decision as to whether you want to use the item obtained.
- Use: Consumes/Equips the item...as the original equip currently does. (players are smart enough to know that if they use chainmail....it isn't going to be consumed...and if they use healing potion...it will be consumed).
- Ok: As the original Ok.
I really really would like an option to be able to make informed decisions about items I pick up without having to go and hunt for my unit afterwards again.
- Toggled pedestrians for 32bit machines. I miss my little peeps.
Sine I'm not a coder of any kind, I have no idea what is 'reasonable'. I shall leave it that to you...since that term is subjective.
