Henchmen requirements

What are requirements (in adition to Henchmen tech) to build specific Henchmen?

In my games I can build some of them, but not all and I cannot find out what I need. (I cen build one that gives +2 defense and one that gives +1 army regen, some time ago I could build bard, but now (different game) I cannot (but I'm not through tech tree yet)

Try designing your own henchmen.  You can select the traits that you want but only the ones that are available.  For example, you cannot equip a horse until you get Mounted Warfare.  A weak and cheap scout is useful since it can pick up stuff from goodie huts.  Send it into the Pits of Namtur to gather loot.

First, what race are you playing and do you have Henchmen as a bonus skill? The only race that can train henchmen are the Altair (The "Human" race).

 

And the technology that allows you to train it is in the magic section; somewhere around the same Tier as Bogens Journal (Not the right name, of course but the one that gives you +100 fame)
