Been playing the hell outta LH and I just had to come post a gushing thank you. As some reviews I've read have stated, with this upgrade the series feels like it has finally realized its true potential. I love how the different racial abilities, hero traits and the like allow for many different, equally viable strategies, and just how much fun tactical combat has become.
Best example is a recent game I played as the Ironeers. I've always tended towards a maxed Initiative and damage strategy to overwhelm the opposing army as quickly as possible. Never much liked the hunker-down approach with the Ironeers, but in this LH game I fell in love with the ability to use an immovable-object defensive front line that engaged the enemy while a ranged, high-damage back line took everything down.
Same deal with the summoners mage line v. direct damage spells, crystal-based magic armies v. metal-based warfare troops, and so many other aspects of the game. Sure, there's more tweaking and tuning to be done and training of the AI to best use all of these varied strategies, but I look forward to such things as improvements on an already great game rather than required fixes for broken elements.
So hats off to Kael, Frogboy and the whole LH team. Now please excuse me while I go buy the new DLC packs and any that follow.
