Is Legendary Heroes the same game?

I just bought and started playing FE: Legendary Heroes...basically Civ is my only experience with 4x strat games, and there's so much information available on Civ that when I have a problem/question, its easy to google it specifically. But I'm having some difficulty with Legendary Heroes, as the in-game guide is a bit unwieldy for me.

Are the guides I do find for the (previous?) FE directly applicable to Legendary Heroes? I thought that they were different games (like Civ4 vs Civ5), but maybe not.

Is there an appropriate place for stupid newb questions, like why can't a train mages at turn 75, or why did one of my armies just vanish, or when a hero dies will the illness go away?

You can train mages when you have technology researched (stuff that can shoot) and have enough crystal to train them

Regarding vanishing army - did it happen after auto-save and loading? Or perhaps it is inside of a city?

When hero dies he/she gets illness; those illness can be only cured by special potions and heroes never die permanently (as long as you have one city they are alive)

If you want some gameplay advice look up Maddjinn's videos on youtube. He covers both beginner and advanced strategies and explains the logic behind them. Also Das published a how to series for Fallen Enchantress. Most of the information from that should be still valid.

Couple more questions... I found my missing army, they were in a city...is there a simple way to move a group out of city instead of one at a time?

Also, where do I get the potion that heals my hero after injury?

you can press v to eject all stationed units from a city.

It's called the Iru Elixir and you can buy it within the border of a city with the conclave specialization that has built the Alchemy Lab improvement. The building tree for that is: Herbalist -> Apothecary -> Alchemist -> Alchemy Lab. You also need to have researched the Arcane Mastery tech in the Magic tree to unlock that improvement and the city must have at least 1 essence as tile yield.

Regarding the original question, Legendary heroes is a standalone expansion. Most of the information from Fallen Enchantress should still be relevant.

Most of the changes in legendary heroes is what the title hints at. Heroes were completely reworked. Also encumberance is gone (good riddence), horses actually have a cost other then the horse resource (now there is a point for foot units), and prestige is gone in favor of a new population system. It might be just me but I want all units to require pop like WOM and have your armies lock out the pop from other purposes...at least I think thats how it worked. I'm excited for the future of this series.
