The first one concerns the random maps that are generated. I find that most of the time they do not make for enjoyable games, by which I mean that there are not a reasonable number of city sites and resources to make playing the game fun. I realize that this is a matter of personal preference and that others might not agree with me, but I wanted to mention it.
What settings are you playing with here... If you would like more settable locations do you choose a temperate world (for less settalbe locations choose a desert). Do you play with dense resources or sparse? If you want a lot more settable locations than your opponents play a large map with 3 opponents, that is when I'm in the mood to build a very large empire with lots of city locations and the AI no where near me (most of the time).
For the first pet peeve you got you really need to be more descriptive on what you expect them to do and what you are currently doing so they can make adjustments in the correct direction or at least consider what you are saying.
The second peeve you've got... oh yeah that needs some updates there (and you are very clear on what you expect and want from them). I think there are many others that would like the same thing.
