I just built a new city (my 3rd one).
For a reason not known to me, it says "Insufficient space" for all of the buildings.
Can someone explain to me why that is?
Here's a screenshot of the city and how it says "Insufficient space":
Most likely any other spaces are too close to other settlements. Either that or sometimes (though it doesn't appear so in this case) if there are swamp tiles you will need to cast the spell "Raise Land" on them before they are build friendly.
That might well be. It is very close to my 1st city and there was only 1 tile to found the city on.
So this means you can build buildings only on Tiles that you also could have found the city on, right?
Don't think so, but not sure on that, might have to fire up a game quick to check that.
K, I checked, you can absolutely place on buildings on tiles that did were not good for starting locations. That leads me to believe that you are being blocked from building on those tiles solely because they are too close to other cities.
You have mountain on one side, some space chewed up by the farm. I am a bit surprised you cannot build the logging camp but that could be because you're so close to the other city. I think all you can do is let it grow to level 2, make ti a town so your zone of control expands and the I bet you will be able to start building.
Try removing a couple of the forest squares.
Remove forrest doesn't work either. I'll see if I can build something if the city grows to 2.
I have had the same problem in the past when I placed a city in a valid spot but then later "snaked" an existing city toward the new city. My guess is that the expansion of the city on the right side of your pic has made the tiles surrounding your second city forbidden because of their proximity to the first city. Apparently there are two sets of rules regarding cities, one for initial placement, and the second for building placement.
snaking is evil
Try building that farm, in similar situation it got incorported into city, thus its neighbouring tiles were candidates for being build spot and they were not too close to other city, so I could build normal buildings.
But I'm not sure whether it I could build before lvl2, so it maybe worked differently than I thought.
Can't build anything anymore in that city cause a neutral monster just destroyed it. ^^
Oh and on a sidenode: The spot where the city was is no longer shown as buildable. Maybe another city was built earlier in the same turn and there was no check for it?
My experience with 1.2 is that when monsters destroy a city they salt the land so no city can be founded on that tile. However, according to the 1.2 release notes, that bug has been fixed.
The city could be found again one tile to the south. There then it could also build stuff. But only southwards.
