If a Kraxian Archer uses Fortify to gain the bonus accuracy and dodge, they should NEVER (well almost never) leave the square. I was watching an autoplay, and a fortified archer had a group of mites approach him. The archer does what it normally does, retreat one square (completely pointless) and shoot. This moved the archer out of his fortified square, making them much more vulnerable to the mites. In addition the ^&%* mites moved into the fortified square!
