My mages have no spells to cast. I thought that they were able to attack from a distance. Do they need to level up before gaining spells or perhaps I need to research a prerequesit?
Champion mages may not have any tactical spells at low levels. For example, an "Earth Apprentice". Level him up to get stuff like "Shockwave".
Trained troop mages have a ranged attack with their staves. That's all they get.
