I just played my first session of FE, and it's amazing! Really love the graphics, the feel, the look, the scope. Can't wait to play more!
I just have one "complaint" to wager against the game so far, and it's an inconsistency between the Research menu and several of the other menus. Bear with me here as I explain what I mean. During the tutorial I believe the first thing you have to do is build an improvement in the city. This was my very first encounter with the game, so I watched the video (probably not closely enough) and I clicked the Build button in the bottom left corner, which brought up the Build Menu. Then I clicked the Workshop... this caused a little workshop to appear next to the city on the map. Cool! Then I hit the DONE button at the bottom of the menu. The menu disappears and... so did my workshop. Hmmm. I did this a couple more times, and the workshop disappears each time. It FINALLY dawned on me that I needed to click the Workshop and then click the BUILD button on the menu dialog. Ah ha, a valuable lesson! The DONE button is a "dismiss without doing anything" button.
Of course, you're way ahead of me now. My point is going to be... the Research menu needs a RESEARCH button, and the DONE button needs to do nothing at all except dismiss the Research window. If you're going to train a new user that DONE exits without doing anything, using it on the Research menu to BEGIN RESEARCH is inconsistent and potentially a problem. What if I just want to click on an item but NOT want to research it? How do I exit the menu?
I noticed several other menus I used during the tutorial reinforces the "Done to exit the menu without doing anything" principle. Obviously this isn't the end of the world. Ironically, I work for a large telecommunication company and build web screens all day, and we just went through a major design change where the user wanted the "Done" buttons renamed to "Cancel" to reinforce the fact that NOTHING HAS BEEN "DONE". Strange world.
I also noticed the word "beneath" was spelled "beneith" in one of the tutorial messages, but now I'm just being picky!
