This is version 0.86, so I know that many things can still change. Here is a list of items that I noticed, that may or may not be premature to mention:
In the tutorial, the movies voice-over's were horrible. They sounded like they were done with a $20 headset mic. You need professional voice-overs done in a recording studio to make them sound better.
The tutorial was sort of, well, nearly pointless. It needs to be re-done, expanded considerably, and made relevant. Or perhaps just removed entirely.
After the tutorial, it gave me my sovereign level (0 - it was the tutorial). There was a LOT of very "creative" grammar. Those things need to be proof-read by an editor. The grammar reminded of the grammar I saw with Object Desktop 1.0 for OS/2, Gal Civ 1.0 for OS/2, and other StarDock software from that time (I still have those programs, BTW
).
I noticed some typos while playing the game. Little things, swapped letters and the such.
I created my own faction(?), and then wanted to edit it (I clicked Empire, when I wanted Kingdom; later, I wanted to change the colors; later still, I wanted to change the back-story), but there seems to be no way to go back and edit a faction. Same for custom characters. Also, there are numerous little issues in the whole custom character/custom faction section. For instance, when I went to type in the back-story, the whole text entry area went white when I selected the existing text. Then, it typed in overstrike mode, not insert mode. Also, text entry is weird. The cursor puts in a space where it is at. A little bit of time spent in the customization area should reveal most of the issues.
I gave my sovereign's army orders to march to a certain square. There were numerous routes to get there. Only one of them took the group (weak) by a strong monster. They were attacked. They died, of course. That was irritating. I think the path-finding should be altered to not run troops right next to monsters, especially when they are massively overpowered by the monster. I would even go so far as to put up a warning question, along the lines of "If you move there, you are within range of attack by {monsterName}. Monster Rating: Epic Your Rating: Weak Are you sure you want to move there?" If the player still chooses to move to that space, and ends up getting attacked, well, that's his own fault. But to have the AI do it to you, that's just downright dis-spiriting and irritating.
