Dynasties

I happened to be reading on one of the "Fallen Enchantress" reviews that they are planning on removing the dyanstic aspect of War of Magic in "Fallen Enchantress."  This somewhat disappointed me because one of my favorite games of all time is Medieval II: Total War, and one of the aspects of the game I liked was the ability to create a royal family.  That being said, I don't know how that worked out in "War of Magic" because I haven't gotten it yet (and will probably wait until Fallen Enchantress is out), but I was just wanting to confirm that that was the plan at this point:  no dynasties, that is.

The only effect was creating free super-champions when the kids grew up, plus some diplomatic shenanigans around marriages and who gets which kid.  It was a distracting, ineffective subsystem that didn't work well at all and felt completely tacked on.  As there is no concept of aging or inheritance, dynasties don't really make sense.  Which is fine by me, I prefer to play the immortal dictator anyway.

I like dynasties in war of magic, but it is a bit slow and limited, i would not shed a tear if it was gone. I find it to be very very disappointing that you cannot compound certain abilities in generational terms because that is exactly what would make dynasties very interesting in War of magic!

 

When i say 'generational terms' i am talking about some kind of means of influencing and compounding your desired attributes of the royal family over generations but fully or partly insulated from in game attribute gains.

I like the idea of having children who grow up to inherit their parent's abilities.  My last couple of games featured daughters who grew up to be power spellcasters.  I'm not sure how well the marriages work out as game play yet, since I haven't yet had a game last long enough to generate grandchildren.

Apparently, at least if it hasn't changed from the original comment, in FE Dynasties will default to off but will be able to be modded in.

I hope they do something with it. Even if the AI is somewhat ... homicidal with it's heirs ... I like the system. One of my big goals when play a game is to make contact with the 'Kingdom of Pariden'. Having super units is awesome in it's self. As the stats are inherited they can snowball, and in the late game legendary armor is cool!


More then that, having a sovereign +2 food and or mana a turn is just down right powerful with a large dynasty. The food is as each kiddo means another ~100 or so citizens and a not insignificant power income. In addition to being powerful units.

I hope the information on modding in Dynasties in FE is correct that would be the first mod I would look for.  I love the whole history family line thing of games that last years.

Except that it doesn't mean anything, since the sovereign is immortal.

You  never really have a royal family per se in WoM; you've just got a way to farm up champions. The system really adds nothing to the game.

I wish the Dynasty system was revamped instead of taken out.  It was one of my favorite parts of WoM.  But it was done so half-assed, that it did just turn into a champion farm.  Would have been best if the children had more random abilities, instead of being parent clones, they should have a higher than normal probability to have the traits of their parents, but not exact clones.  Also, having a better system of where the married children couples end up would help, like some kind of dowry system.  The married couples stay with me, but I have to pay such and such gold, and/or give such and such item.

Remember when your children could get +2 health per turn and +2 per mana per turn? That was a Dynasty. If they did revamp the Dynastic system I would hope we could marry cousins and second cousins to keep the blood line clean. Since this is an essence based fantasy game, we should expect incest to actually work, unlike the British Kingdom. Every mudblood you allow to be born should reduce their magical stats. 

Just wish it could have been a core feature.
