Can I revert to a version that was actually fun to play?

That's one of the biggest problems with these digital distribution systems (impulse and steam) is that when you download a game, its always the latest. While in most cases that is what the user wants there are a few (like yourself) who like the classic version. I'm having the same frustration with Mount and Blade on Steam. I need 1.134 to run a mod I want but Steam automatically updates it to the latest (and if you reinstall it, its going to be the latest).

I fully agree, and have the base game from DVD. I am VERY much thinking about taking this game off and putting that on. There were problems, for sure, but that game was FUN a lot. This one isn't. (50 turns to research "Find Familiar"...on FAST speed, no less...is just plain boring)

All I really want is CIVungeons and Dragons (get it, CIV + DUNGEONS; okay, stupid, but I am dying here), and this game has the foundation and then falls (TERRIBLY) flat trying to do it.

This is what happens when developers assume the hardcore players on the forums represent their entire customer base. All I've heard from day 1 is, "the AI is too easy". For us casual players, I thought it was just right - it offered a decent challenge, but I could still finish a game every once in a while. Now, I'm usually dead before turn 50 on the easiest setting and I haven't even researched metal weapons yet.

Everything about Elemental has become more difficult, everything is harder to research, and the fun has just been sucked out of the game.

This is the only game I've bought that uses forced updates (I don't buy off Steam either). I stick with Gamersgate or GoG because I get total control over my installation. If I want to rollback to an older patch, I can do that. I can't do that with Elemental - I'm stuck with a game I didn't buy.

It's probably too late for your immediate complaint, but Impulse does support archiving older versions of a game.

The option is under Impulse Settings/Archive & Install. I haven't used it in a long while, but it used to work and if you give FE a try with that enabled, you should be able to stick with a version you like if that game also goes through the drastic changes that WoM has. You just have to re-install from your archive when you get an update that rubs you the wrong way.

Your issue is actually easy to fix.

Download and install Mount and Blade Warband from here:

http://download.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_setup_1134.exe

Go to Steam and get your Key. Input the key into the 1.134 version and there you go. It will not take Steam updates because it is a standalone version, and your key from Steam will work with it NP.

Looks like they removed enough to make it stable but, somewhere along the line they removed the fun (exploring, random research, etc.). I guess the new Frogboy methodology is, if we can't fix it, just remove it!

I'm a casual player and the AI was too damn easy and still is. In fact it presents no challange at all. Just because your a casual player does not mean you want the game to be easy mode all the time. Casual means you don't have a lot of time to play but when you do it should be challanging. But I would not be opossed to AI challange levels you guys could play on the lowest setting (non-exsistant AI.)

You can create a storage folder and keep a copy of each game version in there.

I know it works because I have version 1.09 on my wife's laptop which plays just fine after i had transferred the game file there and it doesn't even have Impulse installed on it! In hindsight, wish i had done this for all versions of the game.

NB: i do not think i have ever seen a more 'whack a mole' series of game updates in my entire life as i have with Elemental! In other words.... Imagine a game of whack a mole where half the moles are colored blue (good game aspects) and the other half are colored red (bad game aspects) and the developers whack just as many blue moles as red ones, then pretty much an equal number of new red and blue moles pop up for the new game version!!

A useless criticism.

First of all, developers will always want to attract 'newbs' to their games, your just kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Second of all, the real issue here is weather or not the difficulty levels are comprehensive enough to reasonably satisfy Hardcore and Newb players alike.

No offense, but I haven't played this game in a while and I'm pretty bad at it, but playing a couple matches on normal since 1.39 the AI has not even put up the semblance of a challenge. They haven't even attacked one of my cities. They demand money, I refuse, they declare war, then they park some really weak army not far from a city and then do nothing. I can then casually bring my sov over alone and enter battle, then kill their entire army in one or two turns with AoE spells. This repeats the whole match until I've killed everyone. I have never in all my life played an easier game with worse AI, I couldn't even imagine it getting easier unless the AI literally did nothing and built no units. If you want easy this is your game, and complaining it's too hard and you can't win just makes my mind twist inside out. Build a group of peasants or two and you'll win.

I played a few games on 'easy' early on (v1.19-1.20ish) and found for some reason the AI was far more aggressive than it is on 'normal'... They showed up with axe guys and gave me the chop pretty fast. On normal I agree you end up fighting herds of peasants that are pretty far from effective as either defensive or any other class units. I haven't tried 1.39 BETA yet as I had to wash my hair...

Eh, the rage is because this last update has rendered my copy of Elemental unplayable due to the glitches....and Steam and Impulse have rendered 6 games unplayable, thanks to the mandatory updates, it drives my patience and sense of humor for this kind of stuff low. that is a direct violation of my privacy and it is morally and legally wrong.

I bought rebellion from stardock not from steam , there was no mention that i had to use the steam software to run the software before i bought it.

I dont play on the net so there is not need for steam.
