I think hexes are better also, but Brad doesn't, and that's what counts.
Squares take a round world and make it a box, ^^, while Hex's are for satan's children (no insult to any of you who are one..^^; & couldn't think of a better blurb)
What game developers should be using for strategy games is a duel-layered octagon grid. that plays on a world map without grid lines... direction movement is based from the unit in questions current position, not a fixed world map grid reference & it would mean direction in 8 directions. Of course, this would mean a whole mass of work for developers & a whole new series of nightmares for game codeing... but it would give 4x a boost since it would eliminate the "Oh noes.... I'm trapped by thiese lines..." feeling to playeres. Of course, the last game company I suggested this too called me a quak and went on to get a restraining order against me. (I wish... lol)
PS: Looking at a 10 by 10 wall of overlapping Octagons is bad for your mental health... feels like the Hounds of Tandalos are coming for me...
