Could we have an option to switch between cloth map and normal with a keystroke?

You need the cloth map at times to figure out which tiles are forest and which aren't (this is already in my opinion a problem), so I would like to just switch between map mode and normal mode by pressing a button, not by messing around with the zoom. Also sometimes I want to just zoom a bit out in the normal view, but if I set the cloth map level to too far away, I can't really make sense of the cloth map when it finally appears - everything is zoomed too far away.

Why not just get rid of the zooming effect and have M open up the map, or something?

1.1 crashes on me, but in the past you could press 1, 2, 3, and 4 to switch between various zoom levels and angles. There's also a slider somewhere in options to tweak the zoom level boundary between the cloth map and 3D view.

I am agreeing with you 100% on this. Most of the time when I zoom out it's just to survey the terrain a little, and I don't want to get messed up by the cloth map. As a result I have the cloth map set to not open till a long ways out. The problem is when it's so far out it's almost useless to pick out resource locations, which is what I mostly use it for since the normal view can be cluttered.

Exactly. When you want to use the cloth map, you usually want to have it zoomed in pretty close. But you also want to zoom out in the normal view at times, so the current system isn't useful at all. I really hope this gets fixed eventually, at least as an option to have the map appear manually, not automatically.

Re-reading can be such a useful thing. Now I think I get it. You want to ditch the slider for the 'boundary' between the 3D & cloth map views in favor of a keyboard toggle that would work no matter what your current zoom level.

Sounds good to me, but the devs have long seemed slightly averse to keyboard stuff. I'm still pining for the Keyboard tab that was briefly available in Options for some of the betas.

I have requested exactly this on two separate occasions, once in a dedicated thread.

So of course, I second this request. Simply shifting into the cloth map by pressing or holding Tab would be amazingly helpful.

I wouldn't mind having a button in the UI that would do this, instead of a keyboard stroke.

Slightly off-topic, but I wouldn't mind there being some sort of a transition animation when the world turns into a cloth map, either. Things like that would do wonders giving the game that fantasy feeling. Though I guess there are more pressing matters than eye candy.
