Specifically for Frogboy and other Stardock Staff Members,
Would it be easier for your jobs if we just made mods that fixed certain problems, and then sent/posted them over?
There are certain issues that are dumb and easy to fix
-Adventure/Domination text not informative: Modify the descriptions in Techs_Amarian.xml/Techs_Trog.xml in SP_Only
-Set Egalitarianism to be 0 point cost
-Remove Organized from default Sovs, and give them something else
-Default factions generally have less than 10 points worth of abilities
Also, I've found that certain balance tweaks are easy to test through mods.
-I can jury rig an 'intelligence discount' for spells by attaching a game modifier that increases the mana pool after a spell is cast.
-For now I've 'fixed' the whole 'strategic spell target army problem' by turning many strategic spells into tactical versions that cost slightly more (only one or two mana). Doesn't really work for things like Imbue Champion or Mobility, but at least casting Arcane Weapon is much less obnoxious.
