apparently it is linked to city size, i just checked right  now before and after my city levelled.

edit oh btw, i had the perfect start to the game, food, gold shard right beside my town - silly me i didnt research war tech and my sov, a hero with oak speares, and 3 peasants (army size 24)  died to a pack of creeps (wolves, spiders and something else) army size of 45 lol next time i am making 10 peasants to tank for my heroes and rushing war tech after i get my 1 civ for harvesting

It makes sense that you could buy a few spears from roaming traders for a Sov or hero, but not produce them yourself. Also make the game a little easy though. For better or worse I guess.

also, i still haven't gotten the hang of using the nectar - is it in a fight or out of a fight you use it ? the food seems to be out of a fight, but the hero holds the nectar and troops can use it ? very confusing.

ps - i've had my spearmen running around with the padded helmet, armour and bracers with the healing pack - does not seem to be regening in combat, guess that was nerfed, it is 1 regen per turn now in foreign land i guess - but i cast arcane weapon on all of them in one turn - funny how you can cast one spell in combat  but multiple outside of it. So my spearmen are running around with 16 attack, 7 defense and about 30 hp and nothing can touch them at the moment, they may as well be heroes themselves 

Warstaffs are fine, as long as they only become available at the same time as similar swords, hammers, etc...

At one point, they were removed from Sovereign creation.  Not sure now, as I've seen them under 1.09v.  That might be Kenata's weapons mod talking, though...

That being said, a lesser warstaff for earier in the tech tree might be nice.

Yeah a basic spear is just a stick with a sharpened point at the end. It really shouldn't need any tech; it really shouldn't be more powerful than an axe.

I can't wait until making weapon characteristics more defined becomes an item of business in the patches to come. Like the previous poster says, there needs to be multiple tech tracks with different types of weapons (polearms, blunt weapons, swords, etc.), each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

WarStaves are pretty much the only weapon in the game which is balanced against the current armor values.

Everything else is either WAY too powerful, or horribly underpowered.

That wouldn't seem right.  I'm the king and they are my heroes; we shouldn't have to stand in line at a stall to get our equipment.
