Last night my game took an unfortunate turn. I was playing as the Umber, large map, and I think I started with 7 Enemy Sovereigns (all the Kingdoms, Magnar, and Kraxis). For some reason, no matter what side I pick I love to crush the Kraxis. Anyway, after a couple weeks of play, I usually only play about one hour to an hour and half every other day or so, It was down to me (the mighty Kul-al-Kulan), Pariden and the Tarth. According to the numbers, Tarth was in really bad shape, but I actually never even found her. Pariden had me pinned in this little corner of the map the entire game. In fact, Procipinee, the elitist witch that she is, conquered the other 3 Kingdoms and 1 Empire before I even found them. Unfortunately this put me into a pretty bad defensive position for a large part of the game. I really couldn't move, but Pariden and that witch couldn't conquer me ( I had turtled up pretty well, I actually created a mountain range so there were only two passes into my section of the map). However, finally I was able to move my way out. My four children were grown and were governors of four cities that I conquered from Pariden and were now under constant attack. I was getting ready to attack the next city when Procipinee wondered into my staging city. Granted her army was much more powerful than mine, but I was able to defeat her.
I don't really have a problem with Procipinee attacking me. Her army was certainly strong and it was actually a very fun battle. Which leads me to what was actually the problem (Yes I know this has been mentioned, but since they are in beta on 1.1, hopefully they will address this as well). The problem comes in with the utter destruction of her Kingdom. The 8 cities I could actually see were completely obliterated. I know there were more in the FOG. The destruction of Pariden left only a weak Tarth Kingdom to conquer. Unfortunately the ending to an otherwise great game left me a little underwhelmed. I was really looking forward to battling the entire Pariden Kingdom.
My suggestion (this does not apply if there is only 1 Sovereign remaining):
1. Have the oldest child that is playable become the heir.
2. Have the spouse take over
3. Have it split into city states or a couple small groups led by a former champions
It was just disappointing how a great game came to an end. I didn't even bother finishing off Tarth, in fact I never even found them.
