ill tell ya man this computer tactic of city spamming has stunted my want to make games go long term they ruin the whole map with spider roads and put cities in horrible places... makes playing the smaller maps almost a MUST for me

the game doesn't actually have random map generation yet. it has map templates that it then sprinkles resources and players on. so yeah, until they fix it, you will see the same terrain over and over again with just slightly different starting locations, etc. there are probably about 6-7 templates on large, just to give you an idea(atleast thats all i've seen)

and yeah, one of them has roads built in.

remember also that you can raise and lower land. *usually* there isn't just 1 perfect spot for a city, but 2 or 3 if you could just get the land working right. not a perfect solution. but i've gone ahead and taken down mountains or moved into the ocean and managed to work around the roads once or twice.... really hurts to waste that mana though.

There is a rendom map generator. Chack out the mod section of the forum. And about the roads. I wish they were more "natural". Not just straight, diagonals and certainly the roundabouts are jujst not fitting to fantasy world.
